It is a wonderful idea. I would love to see it catch on. Sometimes reading the comments here is a downer, but with a few positive comments, maybe we can change the tone and make people happier.

Positive psychology has only been around for a decade? News to me. My 90+ yr old great grandmother was one of the most grateful, cheerful people I've ever known before she passed away, and I can think of quite a few other people close to her age who think the same way. It's great that psychologists have finally found a way to formalize these lessons, but gratitude and forgiveness and cheerfulness in the face of difficulty are not new concepts (especially in a nation with rich Judeo-Christian traditions).

The statement "We have noticed the terribly negative tone – it's just out there, everywhere,"
intrgued me.

I have noticed more anger over the last 5 years... perhaps longer.

This would be a great topic to expand on for a follow-up article.

Why is there more anger? Is it related to "comments", "blogging", etc that allow instant foot in mouth behaviour without a chance to pause?

In times past, people would be upset, but then given time to cool down before responding with an actual letter to the editor. Taking time to write a leter would often be enough to calm someone down.
Perhaps all the inflammatory comments build on each other and create a group mentality, like a lynching? But the anger is then carried forward?
