Wow, did you watch the same game I did? Logan appeared to be carrying a "kick me" sign on his back, and he was picked on and exploited throughout the last 3 quarters.
He was getting burned so badly that the fans in my section of the end zone were going berserk and yelling for him to be pulled.
It is great to be right next to your opponent, but not if you do nothing to stop passes being lobbed with regularity over you and to the receivers.
A defensive holding call, 2 pass interference calls, and getting scorched on play after play was a rather frustrating thing to those of us in the south end zone.

Our DBs are playing better. However, those THREE PI calls make it hard to praise Logan too much. I think they were all good calls.
What about our pass rush? We can't sack ANYBODY without a blitz. Jorgensen gets so much hype, but I don't see it. Quarterbacks have all day back there. I don't think you can even say that we force opposing quarterbacks to move around in the pocket. Any hope for the future or should we just keep blitzing Clawson?

Digbads-I agree with you 100%. I'm wondering what game Dick Harmon watched. CSU threw the ball to whoever Logan was on. Logan lucked into an interception, however, that had little to do with any spectacular play he made. He got burned almost all night.

Really? No Really? CSU's Receiver ruled Logan for the last three quarters. Yeah their non-scholarshipped walk-on ran BYU's secondary down to the ground. Share the truth because it is the only way to improve. CSU's QB stood in the backfield and threw at will. The 21 points they spotted BYU off of major mistakes in 1st quarter carried through to the end but for three quarters CSU kicked BYU's butt completely.

While writing that Coach Mendenhall does not care about yards, I thought that there might be some pandering to statistics with the last TD throw from Hall, and then running Harvey three times straight to get him over 100 yards....I like to see improved stats, but it is also nice to see, when things are pretty safely out of reach, for Nelson to earn parts of his 8-12 quarters, or for Harvey to be spared senseless injury and let DiLuigi or Kariya or Tonga carry to burn out the clock...

Not an impressive win, but the got it done.

Hard to believe S. Florida's QB dismantled FSU on his own....120+ yards rushing on 24 carries, 250+ yards passing, and the rest of his backs in single digits? Don't know how much turf, traction, or flat out complaceny found us losing to this FSU team.

I monitored the game via ESPN, who was streaming CSU' broadcast. Their color and play-by-play guys were quite good, not overreaching homers, complimentary and excited for either team's successes. However, the p-b-p guy was driving me crazy with "..is hit down at the..." Use English pls?

I too am a little perplexed with Dick Harmon. To write an article of such praise about a player who was burned time after time yesterday, makes no sense. Logan was awful yesterday-he was burned all day long. Sure, he had maybe four nice plays all game, but the rest of the time he was getting eatin alive!

Also, I am a little confused as to why Bronco would call Logan as a good a corner as BYU has had sense he has been coach. Logan does tackle better than many of the other ones BYU has had, but his coverage is horrible. He gets beat every time by his man.

this guy wouldnt be starting anywhere else but BYU
He's alright. | 8:13 a.m. Sept. 27, 2009
Logan just needs to look for the ball. He was in position to make a play every time he got called for PI.
LBs= no pass defense | 8:35 a.m. Sept. 27, 2009
Offenses are lighting up our LBs via passing like a Roman candle. We need lighter faster LBs out there playing. Why isn't anyone talking about this?
What? | 9:04 a.m. Sept. 27, 2009
For every good play Logan made, he made 2 or 3 mistakes. I was also yelling for him to be replaced. Give me a break Dick!!
Perspective | 9:50 a.m. Sept. 27, 2009
Yes Logan has some interference calls and several completed passes against him. But so did the entire secondary. Don't forget that BYU largely plays a prevent zone defense all game. BYU is not a defense geared to stop completed passes. This defense will ALWAYS have lots of passes completed against them. They are focused on keeping the points down to a minimum and hoping the BYU offense puts up a few more tds - which is exactly what happened against CSU. Given the type of defense we run you have to judge our secondary a little differently. Like how quickly are they on the receiver after a completion? And Logan closes on his man as fast as any BYU db I can remember since the two Rices. Bradley is pretty good at that too. They are not asked to play man to man coverage. They are asked to close fast to limit the YAC and points. And Logan and Bradley actually do that very well. In other words, they do pretty darn good at running the defense they are asked to run at BYU.

I agree about Jorgensen. Why the hype? Our Qb pressure comes largely from our LBs.

I would take Logan over Brandon Howard everyday, that guy was horrible. I love his effort he plays hard.
What happenned to Lee Aguirre? Did they redshirt him? He was the highly touted CB in the recruiting class. Logan was terrible in coverage
yesterday in the redzone. Why not go with a taller CB inside the 20. I like Logans potential we were all down on Justin Robinson early in his career at BYU and he turned out to be our best corner his senior year.

Re: LBs = no pass defesne | 10:53 a.m. Sept. 27, 2009
What? We have faster more athletic linebackers in Clawson, Pendleton and Nelson than we have had in a long time. They are the only one's getting to the QB and they are playing the pass pretty well. Don't forget on thing Cougs - are defense is NOT geared to low pass yards. It is geared to preventing YACs and points. We are a zone prevent defense and, except for FSU, this defense has done a decent job with that assignment. The linebackers are the strength of this defense - by far!!
Gabsports | 12:19 p.m. Sept. 27, 2009
It is time for BYU to start bringing real atlethes, we can't depend o walk ons for ever. And we need size too, look our quaterbacks and our cornerbacks/safetis, they are just small, they won't make it to the NFL. And we need more african american players, let's fave it, they are better atlethes, we have so many white players. Can we expect to be competitive outside the conference if we don't have quality players ?. I think Bronco has convinced himself that with LDS players God will bless us and have an awesome team. Wake up Bronco, religion and football are different things. Actually if you think about it the best players in BYU history were not LDS or didn't go on mission. BYU is going t improve once we get rid of Bronco.
NevadaCoug | 4:18 p.m. Sept. 27, 2009
Gabsports, Crowton tried recruiting more non-LDS athletes and got burned for it. Fact is, there are very few non-LDS athletes that want to come to BYU and live up to standards required of them (no alcohol or sex). That makes it immediately harder for BYU to recruit those guys.

Or do you think that BYU should just bring those guys in and then turn a blind eye when they don't follow the rules? Um, yeah, that will do wonders for team unity and chemistry (again, Crowton years).

Bronco is perfectly willing to bring in non-LDS athletes, and he has done so (O'Neil Chambers, for one). He just isn't going to lie or cover up the Honor Code requirements just to win. Especially, since he understands full well how that worked before (wow, back to the Crowton years again? How about that...).

Obviously we didn't make any points with the voters we dropped a slot in the AP top 20 and barely moved in the Coaches despite 6 higher ranked teams getting knocked off
BYU is Lucky | 8:36 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
BYU is lucky to even be ranked. Not sure they deserve top 25.
