PG over rated | 12:12 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
I mean no disrespect to AF. In fact, their performance was more impressive than PG. Hopefully now, all the PG fans can quit talking about how their team is the "greatest ever" or "best in state." Yea, you won, but you should have put them away. Please be quiet until you back your hype up. Sincerely, HS Football fan.

Re PG over rated | 12:22 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Hey, PG is 5-0 with the most recent win over a very physical AF team that came to play. But that being said, what more do you want from the Vikings?

Everyone remembers the Utes killing Alabama in the Sugar Bowl last year. What people dont remember is that earlier in the season, the Utes barely squeaked by a less than impressive New Mexico team. My point is, why does every game PG plays have to be 100-0 for you PG haters? In my book, PG has just earned a win on the road vs a top 25 opponent and a REGION oponent at that. Give Credit where credit is due. 5-0 and rolling

Backing Up Hype? | 12:31 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Last time i checked, being 5-0 is backing up hype bud. And if PG is Overrated, what does it make the 5 teams that they beat?
Win the games on schedule | 1:10 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
PG may not be the best team in state. Of course, the measurement for best team comes in November. If PG wins the title, the matter will be settled.
Comic relief | 1:41 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
I disagree. Keep talking. It'll be interesting to see where you end up in that tough region, before the last game of your regular season, and senior night. Yes indeed, bloat-away, we are all enjoying it.
second the motion | 1:50 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Bingham was done with AF by halftime (34-6), while PG was mired in a scoreless game at the half. Perhaps the chatty portion of the PG fans can stop whining about the rankings and talking up what they would have done in Texas. The rankings mean less in HS than in college. All the best teams (and there are several) will have a chance to prove themselves in the play-offs - the only place where it matters. Until then, any comparisons drawn from anywhere but a scoreboard are just bias and meaningless talk. Region 4 is an awesome region and I think it will be tough for any team to go undefeated and I'm certain that the region will represent itself well in the play-offs. Here's looking forward to one heck of a region title race over the last four weeks.

Bingham killed AF
PG | 7:25 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
I honestly wasn't that impressed with Pleasant Grove. Their defense, with the exception of Kruger (who isn't as good as everyone says he is) is really small, meaning that teams with some beef on the line can slam the ball down their throats, which AF did in the first half and had drives sputter around the 20 yard line. Lloyd does not have a D1 arm... he can run well, but his decisions passing the ball were lacking, thus two first half interceptions right to American Fork Players. To be honest, I thought American Fork had the better team last night, they just killed themselves with a dropped TD pass in the 1st quarter, and not being able to punch the ball in from the 4.
pg good but not great | 8:02 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
I am not impressed. PG struggled against an average AF team. They are not even close to the talent of Bingham. They will not even win the region. They are good but not great.
Lloyd is good but not great | 8:06 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
The PG QB is smart, fast and a great runner. His arm is average at best. Against a week AF pass defense he was had as many int's as completions in the first half. He was a little better in the second half but only completes dump off screen passes and passes in the flat to a very good tight end. The last TD was against a desperate defense playing to stop the run as time was running out. I see why he is going to Stanford, a week and loser program
Digger | 8:13 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Jordan will drop at least 35 on PG. The problem is, they may well give up 42.
RE: backing up hype? | 8:19 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
The collective record of the teams PG has played is 14 wins 15 losses. What does that make the teams PG has beaten? Average.

Last week PG beat an undefeated West Jordan. Last night WJ lost to Riverton, a team that has lost to both AF and LP. WJ is not a quality win.

PG barely beat an average Timpview team that lost big to Alta and doesn't have a quality win this year.

PG might win the region (highly unlikely). It is just as possible that they end up 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the region. No way they will ever beat Bingham
Mindless chatter | 8:33 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
The reason for all the negative PG chatter is because it is the PG fans declaring themselves the "greatest" team in Utah high school history. They have not proven themselves the best team in region 4 (2 and 0 against the two worst teams). They definately have not proven themselves to be the best team in the state.

5 and 0 big deal. Win a state championship then talk. Until then ......
keep talking haters | 8:37 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
af has put up 30+ points on every other team they have played except a 41-14 loss to bingham and the 21-7 loss to pg. keep talking haters, pg will just keep winning! every team will struggle at times, the great teams will win those games as well! every team is up for their pg game, and af was no different. 75th meeting, storied rivalry, home field advantage, homecoming...... pg was set up for a loss. sorry haters, it wasn't meant to be..

go ahead, keep hating, keep running your mouths, keep making excuses, keep talking about how good you are, keep saying coulda woulda shoulda, and pg will keep winning!
re k dog | 8:45 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Ya ya ya, Bingham killed AF, you put up twice the points PG did. Oh wait, AF put up twice the points on you, right?

How does PG think they can even compete with Bingham and their 1 5A state title? Guess who else has 1 5A state title? Orem! You are in good company Bingham.

Anyone else realize how stupid the arguements have become here?
No Way | 10:00 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Backing up hype and being 5-0 is not the same. When you constantly talk up your team and how you are gonna beat teams 63-7 and then barely win and look awful doing it, you are not backing up the hype that you have put on yourselves! If PG fans would have just been quite and gone out and won and were 5-0 it would be a big deal.
Re: PG | 10:00 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Wow, you're not a biased AF fan at all are you. Lloyd doesn't have a D1 arm? Kruger isn't as good as everyone says he is? Are you joking? I'm sure you know way more than all the colleges that offered them D1 scholarships right? Get real, AF and PG is a rivalry game, it was an emotional first half that was ugly. In the second half PG put them away like everyone knew they would. I don't know if PG will finish the season undefeated but PG, Alta, and Bingham are the class of 5A.
PG | 10:14 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Over rated! Need I say anymore. Lloyd is not a D-1 QB. Wow 136 Yards in the air against AF? Not too good. Stanford good luck. Oops, they dropped the ball on this one. Jordan beat AF and they don't even have a defense. Wait until they play the Hawks, or the Bengals. Not a chance. Keep tryin tho!

Stanford week and loser.?! | 10:34 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
"Stanford week (sic) and loser"...??!!?! What are you talking about. If someone offered you a scholarship to play football at Stanford, for an ex-NFL quarterback (Jim Harbaugh), and get a Stanford education would you turn it down? I surely would not! I am excited to see someone from PG attend Stanford, let alone be offered a scholarship in a PAC-10 school. Get a grip, and a grammar checker.
PG haters? | 11:00 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
It isn't about hate it is about reality. When was the last time PG won a state championship in football. They still have done nothing but beat average teams.

But you're right, it is all about winning. So keep on running your mouths PG as long as you haven't proven anything. It will all be answered by the end of the year, on the field and not in your minds.
Point Envy | 11:23 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
OK everyone, POP QUIZ!

Would you want to score 45 points and lose?

Or score 14 points and win?

Keep padding your stats, running up the score, and losing.

PG will keep winning. Convincing or ugly, close or a blowout, ranked or not, PG will keep winning!
Stanford a football loser | 11:29 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Stanford's last winning season was 2001. From 2002 through 2008 they are 25 and 55 (that means wins and losses).

Would I go to Stanford. Absolutely, but that doesn't make me the greatest QB in Utah history. And, it doesn't make Lloyd a bad quarterback. I never said that. But the greatest. He isn't even the best this year.

average teams | 11:33 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
You idiots are so funny. As Pleasant Grove keeps winning, the only response is "who have you beat, you have not played anybody, you only play average teams. Well wake up and smell the coffee. Week after week PG keeps rolling, and they keep beating you all!
jtown | 11:36 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009

I am the greatest | 11:38 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009
At the beginning of the year, PG fans were declaring their team and QB the greatest in Utah football history. You continue each week to make the same declarations.

You put the target on their back. You set the expectation. You created the hype. Every week you do all the talking. You created the hate.

You have a good team, just not as good as you think
Chill out | 12:05 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Why are PG fans so angry? Why do they call others names like idiots? Is this the only life they have? Are they trying to make up for lacking in other areas? Do they need professional help?
Independent Observer | 12:38 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
I am from Idaho, graduated in Idaho, but now live in Utah, and don't care much. But from my point of view, I hope PG does win it all. I read these boards the last few weeks and their is way more "overrated" talk then claims as the best in UT history. Look at todays comments and their are way more comments about how PG is overrated. Last week it was AF was going to kill them, before that it was Alta was going to kill them, Now that Alta has lost, its only Bingham. Let people be excited about having and undefeated team. Does it really matter that much. Same type of chatter on the Ogden team. Maybe Bingham will beat PG, maybe they never meet. Let the chips fall where they may. Why is it so important to tear somebody down that has hopes of doing something great?
What? | 12:44 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
to "re K Dog" @ 8:45am. Yes, AF scored 14 points against Bingham - six points against varsity and the last eight came in the fourth quarter against junior varsity which took the field late in the third quarter with a 35 point lead and the mercy rule in play. I'm pretty certain that PG did not play their JV unit against AF. Great math though - doubling points scored and points allowed to somehow equivocate PG's 14 point win with a 27 point (merciful) blowout.
Injuries | 12:56 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
PG didn't beat an average Timpview team-Alta did. PG played TV with Kaufusi, Alta didn't. PG played without Sefa last night, and that really hurt their offense and defense.

You can't compare week to week without taking injuries into account.
Noone is independent | 1:41 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
everyone has an opinion. Noone said AF was going to kill PG. Injuries are part of the game. yadda yadda yadda
To Injuries | 1:48 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
PG played without Sefa. Big deal. AF played with Davis Knight on the sidelines. Everyone has to deal with a little adversity.
sean | 2:55 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
AF got a lucky score on Bingham first play. Blown coverage. The other 8 points were against the JV team in the third quarter. Pleasant Grove can't hang with Bingham.
Coaching will be key | 3:09 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
I really like Coach Sampson and he was a great defensive coordinator for the Mickelsen teams. However, I wouldn't say PG has an elite coaching staff but a good high school staff. This could make a difference when it matters. I think Alta has a strong coaching staff. I think Peck has a strong staff at Bingham. Look for Viewmont and Brad Lloyd, who was an offensive coordinator for a few state title teams at Bountiful and West, to really make their mark. Of course Skyline has the master of all coaches in Roger Dupaix and nobody gets more out of their kids and has their teams peaking at the right time better. I think Layton, Syracuse and Davis have very good coaching staffs. The problem I see with the northern Utah County schools (AF, LP and PG) is that they do have high quality athletes and their coaching staffs are good, but not elite. PG, Alta, Bingham, Syracuse, Davis, and Viewmont have similar talent at varying degrees so coaching prowess will be important. As it has been said before clock management issues and using timeouts needlessly which can be overcome against inferior teams but not elite teams.
PG Realist | 3:13 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Im a Pleasant grove Fan. I'll get it out of the way. We are 5-0. GREAT record against a 5A Schedule and the defending 4A champs. Before the season, I read comments like "PG will go into the region at 2-3" or "PG might win a few region games". The only people talking up PG and saying that PG is the best team ever is the people on here. Have any of you actually attended a PG game or practice? Not one player, coach, or fan will tell you that they are the best. I guess all it takes is someone to get on here and post as "PG Fan" and get under your skin.

Give credit where credit is due
Who Cares | 3:20 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Who really cares if Loyyd only throws for 135 yards? Who Cares if he had 2 INT's? Who cares if it was a 0-0 game at half?

Everyone on here is so negatice. How about you look at the positive things like

PG won
The defense held AF to 7 points (same AF team that hung 42 on jordan)
Dallas rushed for 100 yards and 2 TD's

We will all find out if PG can run the table soon enough. But for now, i will definately take a 5-0 pg team that is still working on getting better.

PG doesnt have to beat teams 100-0 every week.
PG Cant Hang ? | 3:24 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Since when is that set in stone? Tell you what, before you all make predictions about "PG's Qwest to fail sometime or another" how about you worry about your own teams alright? PG is good, Alta is good, Bingham is good. Its ridiculous to say that one team will absolutely destroy another before they ever play. But if thats what we are doing and thats what matters most, then I predict that Utah State will beat USC in the Rose Bowl for the NC. That prediction is about as relevant as all of yours
Waldo | 3:52 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Im sure that Lloyd really cares what you all think of his "weak arm". He will take that and his full scholly to one of the best academic schools in the nation and will do great.

5-0. Stings doesnt it
To PG Realist | 4:08 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
Great comments. I wish all the comments were written as well. The problem is the "PG Haters" are responding to previous comments.

I have been following this situation since the beginning of the year. It seems every week the negativism usually involves PG. It started with PG vs Timpview. Then it was PG vs Alta. Then PG upset that Bingham is rated #1.

I am not from any of those schools. I am no expert. I am a huge high school football fan and I watch a lot of different teams. I read a lot of comments from a lot of games. This year each week it seems that PG is involved in a lot of these squabbles.
Injuries | 4:37 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
give PG a full healthy team and you would have seen a 63-0 win.

this team is legit no matter what you say.

and those calling out Lloyd must be nuts, he is crazy good!

everyone who doesn't know anything about FOOTBALL and are harping on a team that is UNDEFEATED. WHo else in 5a is UNDEFEATED??!?!

NONE. Pleasant Grove is fighting through injuries and will only get stronger. So hate all you want, bottom line is PG will be state champions when all is said and done.
JW | 6:49 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009
The best part about this season is that the competition has improved so much over the last 10 years. I am an Alta parent, and yes we have a good team, but so does PG, so does LP, and Bingham, Brighton, Syracuse, AF, Jordan, Skiline, Cottonwood. This is an exiting season. We are not the best, I think Bingham is, but I havn't seen PG play yet, i look forward to our game with them. I think the scariest team looking to the playoffs is Skyline. They seem to use the regular season to prepare for the playoffs. I think that most of the teams i listed have a chance to win it all. I'm just glad that the competition improved and that we are talking about so many teams. I know that region 4 will be a battle to see who survives.

Grades

Offense: C, AF had more yards. Lloyd ran the ball well but do you want your QB to be the leading rusher? It hurt not having Owens and Tanoai in, where was Harris and Sampson?

Offensive line: C-, problems picking up the blitz and sustaining blocks. Seemed to get better after halftime. It looks like the coaches are still shuffling players around, they had a better lineup the last 2-3 games in my opinion.

Defense: B-, its hard to argue with only having 47 points scored on you all season. The secondary coverage is suspect, AF dropped quite a few open passes.

Defensive line: C-, Kruger is the standout here, QB's spend their night running from him. Where are the rest of you? No penetration.

Special teams: C, Kick and punt return are good but kick off and punt need to learn to break down and tackle, stop the over pursuit.

Coaches: B, some creative calls (ie. fake punt) are refreshing, also the delay of game penalties were under control.

I have followed the boards for the last couple of years, but have not posted. PG fans basically declared their team the greatest ever and 5A champs after they beat TV. It started with TV all last year.

Good luck, maybe you do win it this year, but there are some good teams out there. Someone said they would have won 63-0 if healthy. Bingham lost maybe the 2nd best RB in the state and a starting DB before the season. They had a starting LB, center, 300 lb tackle out v. AF. The LB and Tackle have not played since TX. Injuries happen. You still have tough games v Alta, LP, Jordan and Brighton. Take care of them and get healthy before you start running it about Bingham, who WILL be healthy after a weak region. They do have a shot to beat PG although PG fans think it is a foregone conculsion. Bingham fans have dealt with deep runs into the playoffs for the last 5 years, so they know anything can happen. This year is no different. Anything can happen.
BGJ | 7:45 a.m. Sept. 27, 2009
To the non PG people:

1st and foremost, the parents fans and community think we have a talented team this year and are behind the PG kids.
2nd, we also know that region 4 is very strong and are taking it one game at a time, not overlooking anyone.
3rd, we know that a lot of teams we have and will face, including AF, LP, TV, Alta, Bingham, Brighton and others I may have forgotten are talented, and we have to be on our game to win.
4th, we want to, hope to, and plan on beating everyone we play, just like every other team and their fans do.
...........BUT...........
Please understand that all the trash talk and bragging that is posted all over the place is coming from an unknown source. It is not how the players, coaches, parents, and I hope the general fans feel.

We are excited about our season and hope to bring you our best game, and we hope to get yours as well.

Best of luck to all the teams!
