I think the judge is right-on and will not be out-flanked by the case-distractive tactics of the accused & defense.
Both of them specialize in making the impossible, possible. However, they are both on the side of irrationable behavior. Both of them seem they are not what they say they are. DeChristopher is not a hero to humankind, he is a nuciance.
Tim DeChristopher is nothing short of a hero. My hat's off to him.
I dont care if you think him as a hero. He has been charged as a felon and that is what the state is trying him for.He even admits to breaking the law. That is what this case is about not if you believe globle warming is happening.
To Michael: I'm afraid you don't know what a true hero is...
His extreme views caused hardship on many financially. The question is did he break the law and if so put him away for the max. Our country needs to have laws and abide by them. If the laws are wrong work towards changing them. People for years have tried similiar cheap stunts against the IRS and it has not worked. Move forward and if found guilty give the young man what he claims he would accept jail time. A point needs to be made so others will respect the law by making sure he gets max time if convicted.
By the BLM's own laws it should be prosecuting all the bidders at these auctions. None of them have the funds to pay for the bids they may win and they all ask for a 30 day grace period to pay contrary to the BLM bidding laws. This 30+ grace period is so the winning bidders can go out and find or sell the lands they win to pay for their bids. Without having received payment the BLM allows the bidders to transfer title and sell land they haven't paid for.
How is this any different with DeChristefer? What laws have been broken that the BLM has tolerated for years? It's all about disgruntled bidders who lost their bidding wars.
I agree. This is about disgruntled bidders who "lost" money making lands to a college student. The sale of the land was halted as illegal by the current organization of the presidency. The trial against Tim DeChristopher should also be stopped and he should be aquitted. This is all a farce and a waste of taxpayer money. It is a those who have against those who do not and a sham.
Sadly it appears that Tim will end up doing some time for this. His accurate sense of the immediacy of our global climate crisis drove him to action, rather sitting by idly, wishing others would take action on this critical problem.
When Tim is done with whatever sentence he may receive, you can be sure he will back out here working to address the problem, with even more commitment, more skills, more allies, and with a heroes welcome by many of us. We need the Tim's of our world to combine their intelligence with their wisdom to advance change right now. There is no time to lose.
One analogy that comes to mind is the Scopes trial. Judge Benson would have told Darrow that he couldn't discuss evolution. This will be historic, and he will be portrayed in that light in a play about those who allowed all human life on earth to perish. Here's a comparison that might shed light on the grave nature of our situation. No one disputes that CO2 in the atmosphere has increased by more than 40% over the past 200 years, from

"I dont care if you think him as a hero."
Nor do we care what you think so why don't you take your political and personal opinions and shove them.
"He has been charged as a felon and that is what the state is trying him for.He even admits to breaking the law. That is what this case is about not if you believe globle warming is happening."
Of course he admits it and he should be proud of standing up to scum like you who aren't worthy of anything but contempt and whose votes are part of the problem. His defense is simple:
Evil people voted for evil people who passed immoral laws and that it was necessary to violate those laws to stop an injustice. He is no different then those who refused to sit at the back of the bus, eat at a different restaurant, or use different rest rooms because they were a different race.
Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Rosa Parks and others all broke immoral laws and DeChristopher is just another one to stand up to posters turned voters like you.

He is a hero, someone who stood up to evil people and those who represent them. Our thoughts and our prayers should go out to him and his family as he undergoes this trial. It is men like DeChristopher who refuse to back down in the face of immoral and evil laws that are the real hero's. He was made in the same mode as Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther.

Waiting means our children will die.
The environmental cause needs a martyr. Tim is your man. He can go to prison for a few years, write a book, and get out in time to what a hoax global warming is.
This is BLACK letter law. There is no debate there is no excuse. The law is crystal clear.
Roast him and walk away. Send a message as the law clearly requires.
As his actions were deliberate and malicious so should his penalty be the same.
Invoking Rosa Parks, Ghandi, et.al. is specious at best. This guy is nowhere near their class. Benson ought to be applauded for keeping this person's moronic beliefs out of the courtroom. And that is what they are, moronic beliefs. Not based in any fact. Just hysteria created by Al Gore and his ilk to make a lot of money off of the poor unsuspecting public (any guesses where Al will show up on the next Forbes list of billionaires?).
There might not be oil on any of those leases but companies have a right to bid and check. Our nation and the worlds economy run on fossil fuels. Like it or not. All of the alternative forms of energy won't be able to cover our energy needs, and I for one like to drive my car.
Christopher is a spoiled, misguided kid who needs to be spanked on the behind. We don't need to hear about his left wing, fascist agenda coming out from court.
