Fairness focus of immigration debate

The process cannot be easier. More people want to come here, than we have room for. We can't accept 2 trillion people. There will always be a line, no matter what our laws are.

It's important that those who respect this country enough to stand in line, have that place in line protected.
Obeying the law. | 4:23 a.m. Sept. 25, 2009
Since when have the police departments had the option of declaring what laws are fair and to enforce? Now that immigration law enforcement has been handed to them to protect and serve the citizens of america they should be embracing this new power to clean up Americas streets and neighborhoods of illegal alien gangs terrorizing america.

They have complained for years and even established gang units to fight illegals and now they decide they don't want to get rid of our criminals from foreign countries.

It is not a matter of being fair, its enforcing and providing its duties to all of us. Catch and release programs have failed and now they have the power to empty our prisons and jails and they are now acting like children bickering about what laws they want to enforce. Citizens are demanding that law enforcement embrace this change and do what is right and forget about being fair to illegals.

Silva is right. Right now we allow over 1 million people to immigrate legally to this country each and every year. That's a heckuva lot of people by any rational standard. Those who can't get in this year are allowed to stand in line. So long as we insist on a reasonable limit to the number of people who can come here in any given year (and 1 million is NOT reasonable - it is far too many, in fact) there will always be a line. "Waiting too long" is no excuse. Waiting too long for citizenship is no excuse, either. Invariably some of the biggest employers/managers/recruiters of illegal immigrant workers are...naturalized citizens. The guy who recruited all the workers for the firm down in Lindon that was raided was a naturalized citizen, for example. Immigrants should have to PROVE their devotion to the laws of this country before becoming citizens. If that takes 5, 10, or even 20 years then so be it.

Smoke, but no light | 10:30 a.m. Sept. 25, 2009
When Tsai talks about the long, expensive road to citizenship he is adding smoke, not light. They are two different issues.
Advocacy groups want to mix lawful immigration procedure with the illegal alien problem.
That way they find much support as they try to build the strength of the Latino demographic. Individually, many Hispanic families are blended (an illegal spouse, anchor babies growing up with illegal alien siblings...).
Few Americans would protest a simpler naturalization process.
Illegal aliens are another matter entirely.
Where law enforcement is concerned, it all takes place AFTER the traffic stop. The chief doesn't need to stop different people; he just needs to process them differently and demand that Immigration pick them up once detected.
There is very little public support for treating illegal aliens like citizens once they are in custody. They should be apprehended, detained, and deported according to existing law.
Failing to do that is playing political games.

We will have fairness when everyone follows the rules!

Talk about being fair? How about kicking out SL mayor Becker? That is the Police chief's boss. He is following what Becker tells him. Next election, remember that. Then maybe we can get our laws enforced in SL. Do you hear Becker?

Here is the "fair" solution. If an illegal immigrant is caught, you round them and their family up (we don't want to break up families) and ship them back to their country of origin. Once there, we hand them immigration papers and show them the end of the line.
Not Fair | 11:46 a.m. Sept. 25, 2009
"Burbank, chief of the Salt Lake Police Department, said he wants fairness for city residents of all races." Illegal Alien is not a race!! For some reason the SL police chief seems to have concluded that Latino illegal aliens are a race. (Are pick pockets a race?) Perhaps they are an ethnic group, but not a race. Illegal aliens come from all parts of the globe. When in doubt, pull the race card.

Concerning 287g "cross deputizing," is not required by SB-81. In fact it doesn't make sense for a city to even do it unless they operate a jail. SLC uses the Salt Lake County jail. Chief Burbank and the mayor are simply pandering to the ethnic Hispanic groups. The Chief seems to be upset that Rep. Herrod has used his own ethnic statistics against him.

If we were to simply adher to the law and not worry about the politics, our problems with this monster would be cut in half !

Vote out the mayor
Fire the police chief
Hire people who honnor the law and are willing to do their duty. There is no doubt that crime and drugs follow illegal aliens. ENFORCE THE LAW.
