Brent Guy is a class act. Shame on Utah State for firing him when they did. That is what happens often when a new AD comes in and a present coach is not "his man." Guy will be primarily responsible for any success USU has this season, and that is not to downplay Gary Anderson's role.
Playing the team picked to finish 7th in the Big East is truly an honor and will be a huge feather in our cap if we can somehow manage to beat them.
You're joking - did you actually WATCH USU when Guy was the coach? Did you actually GO to the games? I did... every single home game until last season when I couldn't stomach it any more.
Hiring Coach A was the best thing to happen to USU Football in the last 4 years.
Shame on *you* for judging a program you neither support with your time nor your money.
As a fan I appreciate Guy for having the courage to take over the job at USU and for helping our program get to where it is, but I don't blame USU for moving on. USU stuck it out with him for 5 years! He was a pretty good recruiter and a good guy but he was terrible with the media... His refusal to speak about it to this day shows that. He wouldn't comment about anything after his last game at USU. I hope ther isn't sour grapes with Guy and USU we appreciated him ther but it was time to move on! I can't believe he didn't recognize that...
His offensive schemes were ineffective. His offensive coordinator did not think that you could run outside tackles in college football. The defense was ok but could not stay on the field the whole game and stay competitive. He could not motivate the players. They were undisciplined and without direction. I believe he is a great assitant coach... but not a head coach. The attitude, schemes, and players are significantly different from who they were when Coach Guy was at USU. He was also a failure at recruiting. Any success USU has this year is from a complete overhaul of the systems and attitudes of the new staff. Coach Guy needed to go, the program could not survive another year of the same poor performances on the field and off, and that is what a head coach is responsible for, developing great young men on the field and off.
Brent Guy is a class act, but his record at Utah State was horrible. There aren't many universities in the nation that would have given Guy as much time as Utah State did to try and turn the program around. Brent Guy has the worst winning percentage os all Utah State coaches.
Re: LaVar
I thought Coach Guy deserved at least one more year, but I don't think that USU's decision to sack him was a shameful one.
Yea, like BYU's big win over Tulane.
I do not think it is too classy to be consistently named the worst team in the nation!! He did nothing for the program and should have been fired a long time ago! Anderson already has them playing REAL football.
Brent Guy is a class act. I've had the pleasure of talking with him, but he couldn't put a team on the field that ever had a chance of winning. If Anderson has success this year it is completely his. He has totally rearranged the team. Multiple players are in new positions, or on the opposite side of the ball. Anderson has evaluated every athlete and is trying to get the best athlete on the field--even if that means guys like Curtis Marsh are no longer playing offense. That is coaching. Anderson is a coach. Guy is a coordinator. A class act, but always a coordinator.
but still have the guns to give wit nightmares!
utah stinks, they will get trumped or thumped.....
This will be a tough hard faught game for my Utes. If we win it will be by a touchdown or less. The Utes are not looking good this year. I would not be suprised at all if we lose tomorrow. I am just speaking the truth. I will be there in regular fashion 3 hours before kickoff. I will always support my Utes, I just don't know if we can win tomorrow. If we play like we did against a sorry Oregon team we will lose by 20!!!
Come on Utes, pull your head out!!!
BCS, baby! BYU is still in the hunt. Next year, next year!!! We are championship calibur team and NEXT year will be the year.
No more like utah's big win over SJSU. What was it again, 7-7 in the 3rd quarter? I was having trouble telling which was the doormat team.
We all know that Guy could not coach his way out of a hat. That being said he did get USU a new athletic facility. One that is far more better than the previous. That helped with getting some athletes up there. As for coach A, he is the man. Night and day diffrence in logan this year. People, dont be so quick to count out the utes. Why are people worried about this game? We all know they will be ready to play. Whitt is making sure of that. Utah by 17
cougar fans are the worst fans on earth. on blocku there is a link to a utube video. watch it.
Honestly, I hope Guy has his defensive players up to the task. Guy was a decent fellow during his tenure with the Aggies, but the reality is he didn't win. (AKA Crowton and my beloved Cougars.) Adious and 'don't let the door hit you' kind of sentiment. I would hate to see a Big East team take out a MWC member...but, on the other hand, it is the Utes. The motto for this year is no different than any other year(except during the Sugar Bowl - Yes, even I cheered for the Utes), "Any day the Cougs win and the Utes lose is a good day."
Since this isn't a BCS game -- Go Louisville!
Let's see so far it's been USU, SJSU, a loss to a bad Oregon team , and tomorrow we play the team expected to finish 7th in the Big Least. Oh my what an exciting season it's been so far. Goodbye stength of schedule. Somebody please put a Valium I.V. directly into my brain.
This is the perfect schedule for a rebuilding Utah team. A couple of mediocre BCS schools and mediocre WAC teams where your team can build confidence and rhythm going into conference play. It's a shame Utah failed to take advantage of the many opportunities they had to close out Oregon, but I'd be really surprised if they can't beat Louisville. This is an important measuring stick game for the conference since most people believe the Big East is inferior to the MWC. Go utes.
