I don't understand why in all the world why there isn't a conductor that we wouldn't have to share with some other place. There isn't ANYONE ElSE in all the world that could handle it! REALLY!!

Most world class conductors all have multiple symphonies they are involved with. So sure, they could have searched for someone to be only with them, but then you would not be getting a world class musical conductor.

I want a Utahn | 1:43 p.m. Sept. 24, 2009
Conducting is an art more than a disipline. Managing an musical group and making musical decisions requires a talented and well trained ear.

I would hope that some day we may have a Utahn as the principle conducter and OTHERS as guest.

Don't get me wrong... I knew who he was before today and certainly think he will do very well; I only believe that Utahns need more sense of tradition and local uniqueness.

We didn't invent BBQ so lets keep what we have Utahn and make a name for ourselves.

Conductors are shared between symphonies because that's how the system works these days. Gone are the days when a conductor of talent sticks to only one orchestra. They are too valuable and know it.

In these hard eco times with music programs losing funding both public and private, and with people losing jobs and careers, due to cutbacks and even the end of music and art programs, that this job could have been and should have been filled by an American.

No knock on him or his ability, but he should Not be granted a work visa, because he is taking a job that can be filled by an American.

Again No knock on him but an American is out of work because a Foreign National was selected to do what would have been their job.

The selection people could and should have found an American to do the job. I would bet the search would not have been hard and the Music Quality just as good.

Um... I'm speechless about your comments. Would you rather have an American (not South American, I'm guessing) who has less credentials than Maestro Fischer lead the Utah Symphony?
We already had that with Keith Lockhart. He was an American who did an adequate job, but nothing spectacular. So, why not let the "Foreign National" take the helm for a bit? And stop being so ethnocentric and mean.

It would be nice if the new Maestro brought back a serious attention to music instead to d frittering that the last director gave it. Oh we've all heard the caterwauling to make music relevant, but you can find that anywhere. It is rare that we can find serious music and serious musicians given their due. Utah should be proud of it Symphony and its efforts to expand musical awareness in this backwater beyond Kenny Chesny.

Wasn't Lockhart written out of the books after he let Harry down in the 3rd book?

Our fantastic orchestra has a new world-class conductor. Let's all be thrilled for this exciting new era and the asset that Mo. Fischer will be to our beautiful city.
