This is distressing news. The development of digital media will only mean that millions more of America's youth will be able to waste their lives away by watching ridiculous movies or playing mindless video games. Parents should encourage their young people to spend their time in worthwhile pursuits that will help them become productive members of society, rather than a drain on both their families and society at large.

Are you serious about this distressing news? I guess I should have my children out in the garden digging potatoes between homework and reading. That's not to say my kids don't do these things happily, but they do it between family sessions of Little Big Planet or Wii Fit.

Based on your logic the traditions of story telling, problem solving, inquiry based explorations engaged, active learning are all negated in one sweeping statement. The fact that you are actively participating in digital media by reading an online newspaper is really hypocritical. Media is not something to fear as long as it's understood what the outcomes are, both beneficial and negative. Everything should be consumed in moderation, including media.

This story is great, however, it is missing a noteworthy program at the University of Utah started recently where students can graduate with a CS or Film degree with an emphasis in Electronic Arts and Engineering. Many of these students are the type that will be contributing to the local graphics research communities and creating new media for the arts and entertainment.
