I went to the zoo its a very sad zoo compared to other places. hopfully they get this all worked out. Its very sad to take your 5 year old kid to the zoo and they ask why the animals have ugly homes.

too bad that the zoo doesn't know how to do traditional fund raising, with foundations and corporations. They need to work on that the most. All of their major renovations in the last 10 years have come from TAX payer dollars, the entry way from the ZAP tax, the elephant and tiger areas from the salt lake city bond and now they are asking again for money. Oh and they did raise the price to get in this year due to the "bad" economy. wonder what the prices will be when they open the new taxpayer paid for exhibits.

I'm sorry the zoo needs more money, but if the zoo is privately owned, then there's no reason for public money to fund it. The people who enjoy the zoo should pay for it.

Yeah to Matt #2 -- you get it. Why does a private organization need public funding? they have concession sales, admission monies, carousel and train revenue, membership and money from ZAP tax and from the state every year already. why do salt lake county residents need to pay for something that everyone in the state (and outside the state)uses?

Why do we even need a zoo? waste of money. 33 million dollars could go to so many better things
