Allegations and speculation | 7:31 a.m. Sept. 23, 2009
is all that has been told to the public by the media on this incident.
One thing attorney Mortensen is right about, is that all the correct information will come out eventually.
Until then, we as the public, can do the right thing and realize that the media will make the story as inflammatory as possible and that comments from both sides will be guarded and ambiguous.

Is Mortenson a civil attorney or a criminal defense attorney? I would like to know why the Pikula family feels it needs an a attorney at this point.
your kidding me? | 8:19 a.m. Sept. 23, 2009
Did you read the article. Former gang member or not this is someone's son, brother, nephew. With an officer involved, even if jj was a sunday school teacher, i would get the advice of an attorney. after all the officer has the entire police force and state attorneys working on his side. these injuries will be life long and it would be nice to have the whole truth from both sides not just what the police media spins. of course they are angry, can you imagine what would be happening if the tables were turned? jj paid the price for his mistakes and has earned the right to live life like everybody else. He has been working very hard to turn his life around and i am not related to him, just have seen his work to better his life. lets see the film from green street.

Mr. Mortenson is an outstanding civil attorney. The family is correct in securing legal representation.
RE: Are you Kidding? | 12:58 p.m. Sept. 23, 2009
The deputy does not have the backing of the sheriff's office or the state's attorney if he is found to have used excessive force. If and only if the deputy is found to have not violated any department policies and/or state law does he get that kind of support.

If he was in the wrong, he will have to fight this one on his own....

I am just trying to remember the last time the the police, have found the police, to have used excessive force.
They way they (the police) are acting is that they are circling the wagons.
Anyone with any real experience with the police knows that they cover for each other and they are not all upstanding citizens.

I usually support cops but this looks really bad.
Cop is Guilty All The Way!!!!! | 4:35 p.m. Sept. 25, 2009
I really hope that the Security cameras caught what happened because the majority of the public are already siding with the cop in my opinion. This looks really bad for the SLPD right now in my view. I hope JJ recovers from the injurys rendered and the cop is rightfully punished.

It is truly a shame we have not received an accounting of what the tapes have shown. Perhaps when jj is conscious, and if he remembers exactly what happened, we will hear the "rest of the truth." But as happens in many incidents like this, the shooting victim may not remember all that happened, and the tapes may be faulty or tampered with and we will never know. It's been days since the shooting with no hard evidence forthcoming from any investigatory source. It doesn't smell good. I hope this post stays up.

I can't believe that the officers name has not been released yet, or that no charges have been filed against him. If it had been anyone else they would have gone to jail the night of the night of the shooting and would most likely still be there. If the police officer doesn't have anything to hide then why doesn't he be a man and make a statement about that night? Why haven't the police released the results of his blood alcohol test? I would hate to think that they are trying to cover something up, but it certainly looks that way right now. JJ has been employed full time for quite some time now, and would already been married had this kind officer not been trigger happy. It seems pretty unfair to me that JJ's past mistakes have been plastered all over the place. He made some serious mistakes in the past and he paid dearly for them. Why doesn't he deserve a chance at a better life? The officer involved may end up paying a heavy price for his actions that night if the truth is ever told.
