Since when did Bryant Anderson become an expert in real estate development? And even more importantly, when did Sandy City become a real estate developer? Once again, government officials are improperly playing in the private sector. When they fail, we'll be the ones paying the bill.

You must be new to how city governments and Redevelopment Agencies function.

RDA's generally are a significant boon to taxpayers. As long as they are managed right, they help increase the value of property and increase tax revenues for the city.

On the two RDA areas mentioned in the article, Sandy appears to be making very intelligent, long-term decisions that will benefit all Sandy residents as well as the Sandy economy and financial strength and well-being of the city.

I have been meaning to encourage the lifetime Mayor and lifetime City Council members to include all property between 7800 S and 11600 S from 600 W to 700 E as a new RDA/CDA area. That way they can spend future decades in office just subsidizing, building and benefiting from all the commerical and residential redevelopment they can faciltate. I know they got there own private box for subsidizing the soccer stadium, and front row tickets at the amphitheater and I am sure many other developers will willingly offer both public and behind the scenes perks for a piece of the action in Sandy. The roll of government in Sandy is development, subsidies and redevelopment. Out with the old, in with the new, all in the name of increased tax base.

Since when is it a boon to taxpayers to have an increase in tax revenues paid to the city? Propagating bureaucracy is wrong. Sandy Taxpayer is right and Sandy City should not pat the backs and fill the pockets of the private sector. I wouldn't want my properties tax base raised from improper city stimulus to questionable "redevelopment" agencies. Next thing you know, the city will self elect a full-time RDA czar to inflate tax assessments all over Sandy.

Did I read the same article as you? There is not one reference to any tax increase nor any reference to propogating bureaucracy. You don't even understand the role of an RDA nor how it is funded.
The last time I compared property tax rates, Sandy was the lowest of the state's major cities and second lowest in Salt Lake County. Much of this is the result of the development of the South Towne commercial area that generates significant sales tax to the City. The sales tax has prevented property tax increases by the City. Unless you are living in a hotel, you are not paying the hotel tax that was used to fund the soccer stadium. This is the same funding source that has been used to develop the Salt Palace, Abravanel Hall, Rose Wagner, etc. These are wonderful facilties, but what do they have in common? They are all located in Salt Lake City. Be truthful, you don't believe that the people of Sandy and the South Valley dserve to have a sports entertainment facility and I am guessing you are really from "Rocky Land."
