This facility was not needed, and will end up costing ratepayers lots of extra money. This is another glaring example of corruption and collusion in government. Federal law requires that wastewater treatment plants be planned 20 years in advance, this plant was ram-rodded through without complying with this basic requirement. Also, the loss of open space in the Jordan River floodplain and Parkway will forever remind people that locally elected officials are not dedicated to preserving the Jordan River corridor. A six-story barn structure will be the permanent testimony to greed, corruption and disregard to public interests. This plant will service sprawl growth along the West Bench, mostly owned by Kennecott Land. Why didn't they pay for their own sewage treatment? Why wasn't this plant located at Daybreak where the new demand for waste is coming from? Shame on Mont Evans for guaranteeing the plant would come to Riverton, when he claims to be the champion of open space preservation in Draper, just across the river. Shame on Mayor Applegarth for switching his position on this project. he opposed the plant during his campaign, now he's a huge supporter.
