easy when you play teams that dont defend
Anonymous | 9:18 a.m. Sept. 22, 2009
What teams don't defend? Orem has one of the toughest defensive lines in the state. Maybe if Timp had only one of these forwards they by themselves might be outscoring Alta star? But these two share the glory.
ODP  | 12:12 p.m. Sept. 22, 2009
I know these 2 seniors are very good, but why aren't they on the ODP team? This years Utah high school players that made the regional ODP team for the western United States are Emily Bruder, Darian Jenkins, Stacy Blair, Jessica Brooksby, Maris Hamblin, Alexis Selman, Brecken Holbrook , Brooke Rice, Victoria Shimkus, Monique Morrison, Taylor Ritzman, Jaiden Thornock ,Avery Ford, Bethany Kanten. and Kealia Ohai. This is the most number of players to make the regional odp final team from Utah, ever. I think back in 2001 there were only 2. Utah soccer is getting better and better thanks to club teams, great ODP coaches, fantastic high school coaches and the hard work and dedication these girls put into their sport. Maybe Nimmer and Dickson didn't even try out? I know there are many great high school players, but why don't they try out or make ODP? Regardless, I wish these 2 the best in their college careers.

you want to know why Utah had that many? Because Cal South players stop playing ODP once they have committed to a college. Look at the stats Utah always gets more players in the older age groups and it is not because we are getting any better or more respect, its all fall out.
re: RE: odp | 2:25 p.m. Sept. 22, 2009
Hater! Not true as the 93 region pool team is half Cal S. with a couple from Utah, Washington, Arizona etc. Give some Credit. Half the girls on that list are or were too young to commit when they made the team, so do a little more research!
Lehi 1994-95 | 2:39 p.m. Sept. 22, 2009
These two girls remind me of a tandem that Lehi had in the mid-90's--Amber Strode and Melissa Beck. Strode was the 3A MVP that year and scored about 35 goals while Beck was a speedster that netted about 25 herself.
RE:re:RE:odp | 2:44 p.m. Sept. 22, 2009
Cal S. players tend to commit earlier than we do here in Utah and the top players that play in the academy leagues are not allowed to play ODP in California. Do your own research

nimmer plays on celtic storm 93 and no she didn't try out for odp

Ncaa has rules that all states, colleges and players must abide by. Your comment about cal south commiting earlier is just ignorant. The colleges legally can't even contact them until Sept 15th of their Jr year. The list of ODP players is full of players that couldn't have even been contacted. Either you're from SO CAL, or your didn't get selected as one of the best and it is sour grapes? I am sure that Nimmer or Dickson would have made the cut, but it sounds like they had other things to do with their time to perfect their games.
RE: 8:27 | 9:00 a.m. Sept. 23, 2009
Just because colleges can't contact the players "directly" does not mean that they don't let their interest be known. Colleges contact the club coaches and ask about players they are interested in and then the players can contact the schools. To make a statement that your sure Nimmer and Dickson would have made the cut in reference to the region pool is laughable. Remember this is high school and teams are loaded with lower level players these two can't put up these kind of numbers in club because it's a much higher level. Regarding comment 9:18 yesterday and to say that they would be doing what Ohai is doing at Alta if there was only one of them just shows how little that poster knows about soccer. These girls have proven that they are good on a high school level she's proven it on an international level. They are light years apart.

Nimmer and Dickson are not as polished as Ohai, but Nimmer and Dickson are as good as their stats show. They have put up similar stats in club. I have seen all 3 play, and all 3 are very special players. I know BYU doesn't offer to just anyone, yet they have recruited all 3 players. I know that because I know someone in the coaching circle at BYU who verified this. I have seen some Timpanogos games this year and I have seen both girls scoring with girls holding onto them, and out of double teams. I have not seen a game yet where Nimmer didn't have at least 1 player following her everywhere she went on the field, sometimes 2. I don't care who you are facing, it is tough to consistantly beat a double team. Give these girls their dues, they are great!!
anon | 11:29 a.m. Sept. 23, 2009
I forgot to add one point. Nimmer and Dickson would have even bigger numbers, but they play for a very classy coach who pulls those girls and gives them non scoring rules if they get back in once they have scored 2 or 3 goals. I saw Nimmer hit 3 goals in a game and then get pulled. When she finally did get in I saw her deliberately pass up a few wide open shots to pass to someone else. If Natalie Lewis wasn't such a quality coach in all aspects unlike a few coaches out there those 2 girls would be 1 and 2 in scoring. I have seen Ohai's stats and I don't think she has any such restrictions on her.

Recruited or offered? If not offered, where may they be heading for college play?
Good Job from Reg. 5 | 3:58 p.m. Sept. 23, 2009
Good Job Girls! It's nice to read about other teams and players doing good. Remember, this is a game for the kids! What they don’t need is overzealous parents commenting negatively about the teams or regions etc. If these girls are being recruited, then good for them, it’s not easy to get noticed by college coaches, not many show up to watch HS games. Maybe we'll end up meeting in Playoff's to watch them first hand...

Loraina Aleman and Valerie Ortega Combined for nearly 150 goals just in their senior year. 2A never receives any respect.....
re: Millard | 10:49 p.m. Sept. 25, 2009
Please, no comparison as Millard is playing teams that would lose to a U12 AYSO team.
davisfan | 5:33 p.m. Oct. 2, 2009
Davis' Taylor has 20 goals and 22 assists in 15 games. Thats 20+ goals and 20+assists for the second straight season.
anonymous | 11:59 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
just for the record junior marissa nimmer didn't tryout for ODP, and senior angelica dickson played ODP but only made the cut to go to region camp once.

SO CAL kids are overrated.
