The only real winners in sports, in politics, in life, are those who are gracious whatever the result. It's not just kind, it's smart. Being ungracious wastes energy and marginalizes you, making your next battle for victory even steeper. And pettiness in defeat or victory is just annoying.

The high road is always the right road.

When my son played little league, a "friend" of mine yelled "hit him in the head with a bat!" because he wasn't playing attention in the outfield. We're friends again, but it took quite a while to forget what she said.

Kids' sports make parents crazy.

Viewmont High may have the absolute worst parents ever assembled at a sporting event. There is a group of people up here actually dubbed the football mafia because they are so mean. They berate players, coaches, families and it is so sad. VHS is a wonderful school and is represented by a small group of people that make it look terrible. Here is one uncle of a player looking forward to when those parents move on.
