FSU was well prepared and hungry. I don't see them losing again. So BYU's loss wont be so bad come the end of the season and the big wins at home over TCU and CSU will really help them. Beating a 7-5 Utah team won't help us much though. . .firewhitdotcom is coming soon.
Serious was that all they did? BYU embarrassed the MWC and the BCS buster schools today. I have to say even as a Ute fan I was hoping BYU would pull it off to show that the West, non BCS and MTN West are legit. Even a 14 point loss wouldn't have been horrible but this was pathetic. BYU is never up for the big game, well except in 1984.
Pathetic performance.
I kid you not FSU was the biggest test BYU will face all year in terms of speed. You think TCU was fast? They pale in comparison to FSU. FSU is arguably the fastest team in college football just in terms of flat out speed. This will be a valuable, valuable experience for them, particularly with defending the spread against conference teams later in the season. Had BYU played FSU the way they played OU they really could have won this game. FSU wanted it much, much more and killed us in the trenches. If I were Coach Bowden I would give the game ball to the O-lineman. I would say the 50% of the outcome of the game had to do to their stellar blocking, the really made it next to impossible to penetrate the backfield. We weren't out of position most of the time, we just didn't tackle, their line filled the gaps and they just moved the football, and I swear they were at least 90% on third downs. That really hurt us. The turnovers late in the game factored in, but we were way negative on the margin, and that's been common.
NOW WHAT IS BYU GOING TO DO WITHOUT THERE NUMBER ONE NOISE TACKLE RUSS? THERE GOES THE SEASON SORRY.
were any utah fans watching their own team the last 2 weeks. pathetic is in provo and salt lake.
I thought we had corrected our speed issues but found out differently today. FSU was a faster, more athletic team than we were. Hopefully we can make some adjustments before TCU and Utah come to town.
lol fsu isn't even good, they were losing at half time last week to a averge I-AA team and barely even won the game.
looks like boise has no competition from the mtn west this year.
not that anyone ever sees any mtn west teams even play and boise is on espn every week. no mtn west teams are ever on national tv. why is this?
is it the mtn channel's fault?
at least utah has an excuse of new coaches, new qb, and a road game in one of the most difficult settings. Oh yeah, and at least the utah game was close. you guys have a senior qb, an established experienced coaching core, and a home field. proves the ou win was probably a fluke, and you guys peaked on game 1
Cougar fans, when is this NC game that BYU will play in? What date? Time? TV network?
Wow, the MMC got spanked this weekend...it's to bad but that's what makes college football so great. Life is still grand cause I love the Cougs and hate the u.
We are COUGARS!
Time to face the facts. BYU and Utah both looked flat out embarassing yesterday. BYU's defense had no fire which is strange for our first home game. The offense is very good, Hall made three or four really bad decisions but is still a solid college quarterback with no chance at the NFL. Utah's quarterback Cain is just plain terrible and Utah's defense has taken a major step backwards from last year. BYU should win out with the exception of TCU. TCU is a much better team overall than FSU, and their defense is just as fast as FSU. The Utah game will be close as usual but BYU should eek out a win at home. BYE BYE BCS, I just bought my LV Bowl Tickets.
The loss had little to do with our offense. Our defense was back to being typical BYU defense: slow and completly horrible... However our five turnovers didn't help.
"We are COUGARS!" You actually admit that?
at least we're not utah!
At least we're not Coogers.......way to embarrass the league.
While the defense was not good,
it was the turnovers that really killed byu, that and the pass interfence that was not called.
If not for that byu would have been in game and it would have come down who scored last.
After watching the game, I finally settled down and realized several things.
1.) Max Hall is still a great quarterback.
2.) Mendenhall is still a great coach.
3.) Our team is still a pretty darn good team.
4.) Florida State simply had better atheletes and more importantly---MORE SPEED.
Don't give up on BYU. They will win their share of games. They might not be playing for the National Championship but they still have a great season ahead of them. One loss does not kill us especially since it was not a conference game. We are obviously not ready for the big time yet but we're getting there. Go Cougars!!!!!
Hey! It isn't whether you win or lose but how you play the game. FSU played it very well and BYU didn't! Get up, dust yourself off and get ready for the next game and do better! That is what sports is supposed to teach isn't it? Sort of like real life?
Highly unlikely that the Y would have made it to the NC because of the way the BCS is set up. IF they did, it only would have been because of Utah paving the way. But if the Y played in the NC against Florida or Texas this year they would have lost by 50 plus points and embarrassed the MWC even more. Still a good team though. If Utah doesn't improve drastically then BYU will demolish them come November. Go UTES!!!
Remeber the melt down after TCU took it to BUY. The proof is now in the pudding as to whether or not BYU can muster up the strength mentally and physically to move forward and beat CSU. If CSU beats BYU the season is over. If BUY comes out and plays like the did the first two games the season has bright hopes and expectations. Oh yea, let's not forget that coach Mendenhall needs to regroup his team and himself to get MORE invovled like they did at Okalhoma and stop standing around with arms folded like Lavell Edwards. If you want to see excitement in the players it HAS TO START with the coaching staff. THE BUCK STOPS THERE!!!!!
