High court justice will retire in 2010

Dear Gov. Herbert, | 6:39 a.m. Sept. 18, 2009

Please nominate a replacement who will adjudicate less deferentially to the Utah Legislature, the Attorney General's Office, and the rest of the prison-industrial complex.

Upholding the law means upholding our state and federal constitutional rights against government intrusions, too.

Now if only Governor Herbert will appoint a semi-conservative to the Supreme Court to begin, just a tiny bit, to balance the far-left leaning, always-let-the-criminal go, Chrissie Durham. She never even once represented a criminal defendant or prosecuted a case as an attorney. Packing the court with no-experience liberals, as Mike Leavitt did, has been a recipe for disaster.

Too bad the only conservative on the Court is gone. Not looking forward to having Utah's court move even further left than it is. What a shame.

You're so right. I'd hate for Wilkins' replacement be someone who actually respects our state's statutes and rules, in addition to both constitutions. Can you imagine the fallout?
