Springville cries foul over chickens

Why not, consider the chicken (or perhaps the egg)? As a viable scenario to encourage healthy consumption of food. My reasoning: Chickens take up less space, than other domesticated farm animals, i.e a cow, horse, goat, or sheep, they are not noisy (if you leave a rooster out of the scenario), are fun, educational, cost little likely compared to a cat or dog in yearly maintenance, per food, veterinarians visits, just need a coop to shelter them, when matured they are an excellent type of fowl, as to using as a food item. People will buy free range chickens, readily. And their eggs as well. If organic it's the best choice.

Why are so many people afraid of Chickens??

Chickens are a lot more quiet than a noisy, barking dog; and they don't climb the fence and poop in your flower bed either.

Roosters sometimes begin crowing at 3am and crow repeatedly as they feel the urge. Big noise problem.

Chickens fed grain scatter it as they feed. Rats are the beneficary. Careless placing of dog food attracts racoons and careless use of chicken feed attracts rats.

So, by your reasoning:
1) Careless feeding of dogs attracts rats
2) Careless feeding of chickens attracts rats

Are you saying that we:
1) We should ban dogs, too, or
2) Chickens are therefore no worse than dogs.

As for 3 am crowing, only roosers do that. Hens don't, but again, dogs bark all the time.

Springville needs to GET REAL! Especially in these times people SHOULD be allowed to be as self-sufficient as possible. Chickens are the BEST THING that ever happened to a yard. No more bugs, they naturally aerate the soil, plus you get fresh eggs. Sorry, chickens DO NOT SCATTER grain, they eat it! Its EXTREMELY STUPID NOT to allow chickens in ANY areas!
BTW - if you go WAY BACK in County Council minutes, you'll find that chickens were outlawed mainly because there were so many of them (getting into the roads, etc.), that, coupled with the fact that folks in the 50's were considered "oakies" to keep them. We're no longer considered "oakies" now we're considered "greenies"!

Some of our neighbors had chickens, and it was no problem. But one of the neighbor had a rooster--let's just say when one of the neighbors dogs caught it no one was upset.
