I have worked with Shannon and her shops for several years. She is a wonderful giving person.

Thank you Shannon.

How nice to see good news. If I lived in your area, I would certainly use your shop. You deserve lots of business for doing such a good deed. I know you didn't do it for credit to yourself but thanks so much for acts of kindness to your community.

What a great idea...this makes a whole lot more sense than junking the clunkers in the recent government program. Keep up the good work and maybe this will catch on! What a concept!!

I think that Impala was turned into Cash for Clunkers and was shredded into pieces...nice story though.

@Clunkers comment: Not possible... For a vehicle to qualify, the current owner must have it titled, registered, and insured for at least 12 months prior doing the Cash4Clunkers transaction. Plus, buying a car under C4C puts you into debt for 6 years. Why would a struggling family take a paid for car and add $10,000+ of debt to their burden? Our advice to the commenter is please engage your brain before opening your mouth.

Insurance companies will occasionally donate a “totaled” out vehicle for educational purposes or PR. I have been in the insurance claims industry for 24 years.

The Impala will still be considered a “totaled” vehicle and will have been issued a salvage title.

Unfortunately it is easy to get the branding of salvage removed from the title in Utah. What most folks don't realize is that it will always be a part of the history of the car.

You would be surprised how many people have purchased a used vehicle and later discover the vehicle was salvaged. Salvage will reduce the ACV (actual cash value) about 20 to 30% than a non-salvage vehicle.

I have been in the insurance claims industry for 24 years and run into this 2 or 3 times a week.

Why would buying a car under C4C put you in debt for six years? The program wasn't designed to urge the needy to buy expensive cars; it was designed to move unsold, better-mileage cars to people who could afford them.

Shannon's program is different. And smart.

There's probably nothing else that affects a needy family's finances, than a bad car. Think about how expensive it is, to keep an old car running....and compare that to the cost of a monthly car payment.

While I don't believe that unqualified buyers be able to go out and buy fancy cars, I do believe there should be a way that they could purchase a used car with a warranty. Not from some side-of-the road place, either.

Hooray for Shannon!

My earlier comment was by no means meant to be negative towards Shannon or Bear River Ins.

I applaud what they have done and encourage more in the future.

There are a lot of good vehicles that are damaged beyond the economical value of repair.

That she found a way to fund the repair of that vehicle and donate it to a family in need is indeed commendable.

What a great story. I love to hear about people who give of themselves to help others. I hope they are able to continue the program.
