Asiata

With a quarterback that has yet to show any consistency, do the Utes have any chance of beating the Ducks without Asiata?

QB Consistency?

QB consistency has been, if anything, a pleasant suprise. The inconsistency has more to do with turnovers than anything, and considering Cain has yet to be at fault for a single turnover, might I suggest you lay off the guy?

In fact, Cain's scrambling was probably the difference in the game, picking up key first downs and setting up the first touchdown.

Indeed

Cain was not the problem Saturday night.

The problems were (1) terrible play calling by Utah on SJSU's goal-line stand (how many times does the "wildcat" have to get stuffed for no gain before they try something else?), (2) inconsistent man coverage by Utah's corners, (3) no pressure on SJSU's quarterback, (4) two fumbles, and (5) bad field goal kicking.

Asiata

I knew that he would get hurt with that amount of carries, but I did not think it would happen this soon. I hope that more RB's are used. I loved the run by Shakerin?, that guy was a monster. I'm hoping that he gets some more reps. Can't wait for the Oregon game. I hope Utah heals up and comes PREPARED for the Oregon game !!! No Pressure.

I thought the play of the DB's and o-line was abyssmal!! RJ Stanford was flat-out ABUSED, and the o-line looked like they had no idea what to do with the SJSU pass-rush.

The D-line, on the other hand, kept the Utes in the game throughout, and Cain, despite some small early stuggles (mostly with run game), looked like Joe Montana in the 4th. He was spot-on with his throws, and would have had a healthy comp. streak, had stone-hands Peel not dropped the ball!

Tough weekend for Utah schools

Looks rough for both BYU and Utah. They are off to a good, if not great start and now FSU comes to Provo and Utes are off to Eugene to meet an Oregon team that cannot afford to win. I hope both teams pull off wins, the MWC needs them, the big game in November needs them.

Good luck to Utah, BYU and the M

The reality however, is this....BYU is playing a team that struggled at home against a lower than Weber State team, and Utah seems to have handily beat two perrennial cellar dwellars. I see a big BYU victory and a hard fought loss by the Utes. Fact is this...Oregons offense DID NOT limit Boise States offense to only 19 points-and even with Asiata, the Utes are incapable of outperforming Boise States Offense this year. Without Asiata, they will need Asiatas uncle to go choke the Ducks backup RBs to stop them from scoring on the Utes, and so it will come down to a scorefest (but a low score scorefest) in which Oregon should win by 14.

inconsistent?

RE: "With a quarterback that has yet to show any consistency, do the Utes have any chance of beating the Ducks without Asiata?"

How can you say that when utah leads the MWC in total offense and are averaging nearly 30 points a game. Granted they haven't played two stellar teams, but I think Utah will fly under the radar so to speak because people are already talking them down.

anom

Matt needs to suck it up and play on a dinged shoulder. This guy cannot stay healthy he is just not reliable

Knowwhat

I vote for Joe the Toe to do the kicking.

Cewgies

See this - "Utah leads the MWC in total offense and is 12th nationally with 509 yards per game ... The Utes have now won nine straight games away from Rice-Eccles Stadium, closing in on the school record of 11 consecutive set during the Urban Meyer era ... Asiata tops the nation in rushing attempts with 56 ... Safety Joe Dale leads the Utes with 14 tackles ... Through two games, the opposition has yet to return a punt against Utah."

So when you start playing the "Look at our statistics" game, we will probably have topped you. Just in case anyone asks...

Prediction

In a close game, my prediction is the Utes prevail 21 to 17

Ewe of Ewe

After playing two patsies, "Utah leads the MWC in total offense and is 12th nationally with 509 yards per game..."

Utah has done well racking up yards, but they've been abysmal at finishing drives and actually scoring.

Re:cewgies

Wow nice to see that your little brother mentality is showing up. Having a rebutal to a cougar post "BEFORE" the post is even posted, lets everyone know how all the ute fans pack a little brother card in their wallet. Now back to your pathetic over-ranked team. They have very little talent and what little talent they do have is SOFT.

Nice simple name for the cougars by a simpleton, by the way.

ha ha ha utes going down.. love it!

Asiata

There is no difference between Asiata and any other back, so I think things will be fine.

Hawk

Hey Cewgies, do you really view Asiata leading the nation in number of attempts as a positive stat? Really? To me, that is a big concern (witnessed by his injury). An offense relying that heavily on a single player is always a red flag. So is a shoulder injury for a running bag. Maybe this will be a good opportunity for others step up and prove themselves. Otherwise, serious storm clouds on the horizon....

Hawk

Hey Hawk, what's a running bag?

re: Hawk

He really meant to refer to Asiata as a "punching bag", which Asiata is quickly becoming as Utah is over-working him to the point that he'll have little left by mid-season.

Utah had better open up the offense this week or they'll have no chance against Oregon. Every team Utah plays the rest of the season is simply going to stack the line EVERY time Asiata lines up for a direct snap, especially inside the 5-yard line. The only people Utah is fooling by running that play is Utah's coaches who think they'll actually be able to score consistently with that play.
