Nice. The super in Utah who refuses to show the President's speech. And he's rewarded as superintendent of the year.

So what

I know of many schools in and out of Utah that didn't allow the speach- quit bellie aching!

Dixie Dan

Shame on any school who would refuse students the opportunity to listen to the President of the United States. He really preached a socialistic talk about working hard, staying in school and getting an education. Wow how controversial! I wonder if this superintendent will "allow" his students to listen to Glen Beck someday?

Great Choice

The decision on the speech in Nebo was made by the Board of Education. At the time they made the decision, details were scarce and time (for things like parent permission slips) was running out.

They have since taken another look at their decision and have decided to show the speech this Thursday. Parents will still have the opportunity to have their student "opt out" of the speech.

Congratulations Chris!

SpFk Democrat

Go easy on Sorensen about the Obama speech. The district will be showing it on Thursday, which should give parents time to reach an informed opinion about whether the speech is right for their kids or not, unlike parents in other districts who had to base their decisions on anything but the actual content of the speech. Nebo has taken a wise course of action on this one.

Ed

It is Utah County, we don't really worry about excellence, it is also the same superintendent that tried to fire a teacher over sexual orientation, so the Obama speech really was expected...we like people who cover up things and make sure that our kids don't like different colors or genders...congrats Chris..keep on showing diversity in Utah County!

My decision

As a parent isn't it my decision to allow or not allow my children to participate in hearing the speech! I do not want someone else making that decision for me! There was plenty of time to read the speech prior to the President actually giving it. I am so sick of the ignorant uninformed people that think oh no someone from the other party is going to poison our kids minds. No I am not democrat or any party for that matter. Please give MY children.

Kudos to Chris Sorensen

As Americans we have the right to free speech.(as we can tell by several comments on this article) Many people didn't hear the whole story behind the Obama speech. The board actually were the ones to make the decision to not show the speech, and I know for a fact the Chris has felt remorse for the way things went. He is in a difficult spot, and he has also publicly apologized for the way things happened. He was put in a difficult spot but he has always had the students best interest at heart! We have become a society that is too quick to judge. We should all try putting ourselves in his shoes for a day...many eyes would be opened.
CONGRATS TO CHRIS SORENSEN!

Utah Dem

Oh please, more than likely the School Board made the decision AFTER input received from the superintendent, I know how it works on am a school board member in Northern Utah.
