But with the Church's vast resources they cannot make a translation from the Greek manuscripts. There have been several earlier and better manuscripts discoverd since Joseph Smith time.
The NIV translation is and example of over twenty scholars from their Christian denomination coming together for a modern translation.

With good translations of the best Greek manuscripts available (as in the NIV), why would the Mormon Church want to spend the time and money to make its own translations. There are Greek scholars within the Church who could do so, but what would be the point?

Translating is a time consuming task but making up and publishind landish tails are quite easy, hence the book of mormon in the very short period it was put together.

There are many,If they had a official modern version the Christian world would have a field day in exposing it. Example; In the NIV their is a footnote on(Luke 22:43,44)Verse 44,"sweat was as it were great drops of blood". not in earlier or better manuscripts.(these verses were added in the 6th century.)

Marvelous work and wonder(Is 29:14) In a modern translation is "a marvelous marvelous thing, Gods judgement on Israel,not the BoM. Modern trans lation expose the truth.

I think the fact the Smithsonian now has a display a display of the Book of Mornon lends credibilty to it as history. Small dogs bark in the night but the caravan moves on.
