Boy, picking grapes in central CA. This is a revolutionary idea and quite a story. Where does the DN get such insight for these stories? Cutting edge journalism is all I can say.
I know the answer.... | 5:17 p.m. Sept. 13, 2009
They meant Merced, CA with an "M".

Merced is just west of Yosemite Valley. The word is a Spanish word that means "mercy" in English. It's a Latin based word. The famous waterfalls of the Yosemite Valley all flow into the Merced River which then flows near the city of Merced, which is in Merced County between the cities of Fresno and Modesto. Madera (which means "wood" in Spanish) is a smaller city between the cities of Merced and Fresno.

Mercy, mercy, mercy, news writers should check their p's, q's and "m's" when writing the news stories.

It is nice to have extended church family to work together even at a sacrifice of inconvenience. Thank God the fires did not bother that vineyard.

May God's people be so blessed and find His MERCY when we realize we haven't followed Jesus who said to live by EVERY word of God and to keep his Father's commandments. In this 7th month on God's calendar are special days that we can honor as days of no work. Leviticus 23. Read how important they are to the God who does not change and who blesses and curses according to obedience or disobedience (Leviticus 26.) If we are doing right, why are we seeing all the curses even in the church?

God bless your efforts.

Poor Marie. I wonder what it is like to be filled with such animosity towards a people.
Let it go Marie.

I would love to go and visit this place and ask some questions. I live on the San Francisco peninsula and attend a local ward here. We had a lesson in priesthood one Sunday that, in part, taught us that the brethren encouraged us to have a garden. So I ran water to a section of the yard and planted table grapes a couple of years ago and have not done too good. I would love to ask them about the basics of growing grapes so I could get mine to grow.

** "Boy, picking grapes in central CA. This is a revolutionary idea and quite a story...." **

What a revolutionary idea and quite a story--to see yet another "Anonymous" throwing spitballs at the Church and its works, but not having the backbone to stand up and be proud to identify themselves.

Since you missed the entire point, here is what this article is about. It's about thousands of people being glad to donate their time and energy to provide healthy food for the needy. It's about a property owner who could be selling its crops or renting the land at market value, but choosing to put it to use to help the hungry. It's about service. It's about doing the work of God and being instruments of His love for His children.

IOW, it isn't about grapes.

I am in my late 50's and to this day I can remember going with my family in Southern Calif. to the church farm and picking potatoes. We got a lot done and had so much fun doing it. So much so that I can still picture it in my mind. With both of my parents gone now it is nice to know that we not only helped the church help the needy - but to have those sweet memories.
