I thought Jennifer Frautschi delivered a slowly seductive, convincing performance of the Beethoven violin concerto on Saturday--especially in the slow movement, where her experience with chamber music showed. She meshed wonderfully with the strings.
She doesn't have the biggest sound and projection, and her interpretation definitely tended to the introspective side of things. Some people might find that unmusical in this concerto. I found her performance pleasantly enjoyable but not heaven storming, and heard few if any wrong notes, although that was Saturday, not Friday.
Most of the audience on Saturday enjoyed her performance, and that response is crucial for the continued relevance and vibrancy of Utah Symphony and Opera.
