The petition sponsors must conduct all seven public hearings before they may collect any signatures.

I find that legislators are much more prone to passion than the public.

As experience unfolds, the direct democracy approach limited by constitutional principles, is the better way.

I'll sign the petition and I hope it gets on the ballot. Then I will be voting yes. This reform is long overdue.

The Fairboundaries anti-gerrymandering initiative was introduced into both state houses and never made it out of committee. The legislature stranglehold clearly prevents any discussion of citizen initiatives not on their agenda and disenfranchises large segments of Utah voters. Initiates that make the ballot certainly do lead to review and discussion by all Utah voters, not just among the legislators who consistanly have shown a crass indifference to the voters of Utah.

i can't imagine why any honest legislator would object to ethics rules. keeping the honest people honest and all that. i really have a problem with politicians who object to clear, concise rules of behavior. having said that, the text of the initiative seems a bit overkill. even so, the Utah state legislature brought this upon itself. if our legislators had enacted meaningful rules for themselves, the citizens wouldn't have felt compelled to act.
