It is true. The unions in Utah are more likely than the employers to offer benefits. I am an insurance producer and I talk to many employers Daily, who refuse to even consider benefits even if it doesnt cost the employer anything.( and yes programs like this exist).Their reasons usually revolve around the fact that they just don't offer benefits. More than likely it is because they don't want their workers to feel like they have any job security what so ever.

My kudos to the conservative, LDS-Church affiliated newspaper to have one of its reporters and its editors to provide a relatively lengthy text and space to publish this working, laborer event. Nice coverage.

Most union members work for the taxpayers. They are the ones that that can not compete with the private sector without the union.

Any company that uses union labor should expect shortly thereafter have the need for a non union bannkruptcy lawyer.

They know they bribed the guy in the Whitehouse and their payday is coming.

GM was the first step.

Card check?

The union payoffs for the bribes they gave nobama are on their way in the form of legislation that nobody in America will want but the unions. They paid for it and you can bet they will get it.

Bought and paid for--thats our prez!!!

The U.S. was the world leader in manufacturing. Because of blessed Labor Unions, we no longer have that claim to fame and are now dependent upon China, Korea, and other places for our goods and our economy is in a shambles as a byproduct. Yeah, thanks unions.

I do not know what you are talking about. The main electrical portion of the project I am on was originally won by a non union contractor but the general contractor pleaded with the company to accept the higher union bid because we did such high quality work on the underground portion. We got the work and the company could not be happier with our quility of work.

Here are some projects union electric contractors have completed.

1. Most of the new IHC hospital in Murray
2. IMFT in Lehi
3. Real soccer stadium
4. Davis county Jail expansion
5. Huntsman Cancer hospital
6. Byu sports center
7. Current creek power plant.
8. Mulitple water treatment plants across the state

I do not think people realize how much is built by union labor in this state. We provide quality work and constantly get work by the same companies.

Unions feel entitled | 12:07 a.m. Sept. 9, 2009
Some who belong to unions believe they deserve to be paid more than their work skills are really worth. Just because someone has worked at a company for 20 years pushing a button, doesn't mean he should receive an engineering title and a six figure salary. He wouldn't be qualified to run a cash register at McDonald's if he lost his union job. I believe people deserve to be paid according to what they earn through their productivity/output.

Two of the largest car companies in the world. One is unionized the other is not. Which is doing better?
