I thought the most beautiful thing in the world was when McKay forced the defender to commit to the inside then broke to the outside. Instant 15 yards of separation.
I kept hoping for replays the rest of the game and never got them. Guess I'll have to wait for the Furious Monkey highlights video.
If you fumble before 80,000 +, the home coming is not "perfect" in any way, shape, or form. Just suggesting that we be a little more accurate in our headlines.
The TD catch was lovely but botching that punt, both the decision and the execution, show a guy not at his best mentally and physically after two years away.
It cannot be under-estimated how critical that punt was. I would say at best it got him back to even.
Great job McKay. Welcome back!
Wow, you ute fans are obsessing over a headline. Obviously you have no grasp of what type of team the cougs beat. Your dissing on a great performance on a huge stage...wow. Guess what, that was his first game back. Watch out for this kid.
Pretty Good. The OU punter did a really good job. Most of his punts landed in the 10yd line area and most were angled to land near the sideline creating a difficult angle to judge. Jacobson caught another around the 10 and let one go that barely made it in the end zone. After the first flub, I think he did okay after that. I expect him to be better as the season goes on. These are split second decisions and tough to make. Another factor was the punter was a left footed punter and the ball was spinning in a direction opposite to that of a right footed punter.
As far as his receiving, I thought he did OK against a very good secondary. Not alot of balls to him but he was wide open on the long one and also in the end zone. If Hall doesn't underthrow the long one it is six. I like what I see with Jacobson and Chambers. FL State will be another test with a very good secondary. I'm glad we have GREAT tight ends. The combination of receivers and tight ends we have really tests the defense.
had a great game also. When he was at Pine View HS almost every kick off went through the back of the end zone. He'll probably be doing that soon too.
still open in the end zone ! !
Our freshman punter did a great job! Absolutely kudos to him as well.
BYU's offense often comes out a bit sloppy in the first game - all teams probably worry about the shakedown cruise somewhat. I would bet McKay won't be sticking his hands out like that for another punt.
That was an absolutely bone-headed kickoff at the end. The camera angle was right behind the kicker, and his leg swing looked terrible, so I knew the ball was going waaaaaaay left. Should not happen again. Ouch.
FSU has few returning starters on their defense (5) but three of them are defensive backs. Their OL will be awesome, but their ball handlers, with the exception of a mediocre QB last year, are all new. I like the odds of a 3-0 OOC schedule to start the season.
Go Cougars.
