The Sooners took the bait and keyed on Pitta. Great redemption for Jacobson, who got to be the hero in front of his hometown crowd.
What an awesome game. It was a real treat to be at the game.
More "Blue Grit"...
BYU's last drive was terrific and Max deserves a lot of cred for keeping his composure under duress (so much for the "Max can't play in big games" nonsense).
But the defining moment of the game was BYU's goal-line stand. The defense won this game. Jaime Hill deserves tons of credit as does the entire defense who played with amazing heart and courage. And who can ever forget the Bronco's intensity on the sideline during that defensive series -- will never forget it as long as I live.
OU didn't lose this game, BYU took it, and BYU deserved the recognition and accolades that should come with taking the risk of playing this game and showing the heart and pure grit to outplay a _very_ talented opponent.
I thought at the time that 3rd down draw play was the most stupid thing I'd ever seen, and then with the swift follow-up completion on 4th...WOW!
Made me wonder afterwards if that was a two-play call. If so, it was brilliant.
It absolutely was a two-play call, they were in 4-down mode, and even if he got 3 yards on the 3rd and 10, they would've drawn up the same play. The great thing about that drive was that the coaches and players were all on the same page, knew exactly what was going to happen (watching Tonga jump with confidence was awesome)...reminded me of the Beck-Harline drive in 2006. One of the most memorable drives in BYU History. And I also agree that the phantom pass-interference, goal-line stand was the key to the game- what an amazing STOP!
Riley needs a chance to do KO's now. You don't kick it out of bounds!!
Amen to changes in the kicking game. I had flashbacks of last year with Payne putting teams in scoring position with a stupid out of bounds kick! That is a ridiculous mistake and something needs to happen. We are fortunate on that point in combo with Bradford not being in there. I think if Bradford is leadingthat last drive they get 10 to 15 closer and that FG becomes makeable.
Where did all the ute fans go?
BYU beat Oklahoma with a gritty defense.
.
That sentence seems weirder the farther into it you go.
.
Major congratulations for Jaime Hill's play calling and preparing his players -- and to Bronco for giving the defensive reins to Coach Hill. Also to the BYU coaches for outcoaching Okla.
.
Thanks to the players for an inspiring effort. Before the game, I just hoped they'd acqit themselves well. As the game went on and I could sense we'd win it, I was more impressed with the grit and preparation of this team than with the impending win.
"Where did all the ute fans go? "
They can't see and are stumbling around in the darks mists with asterisks in their eyes.
Or going around collecting them, having mistaken them for 4-leaf clovers before their turn in November....
He S2 - All the Ute fans can tell a good victory when they see one. Great job Cougars.
Too bad so many cougar fans can pallet a good sugar bowl win for the MWC and dismiss it as luck. Or a 13-0 season as luck.
Why spend so much time bagging on the Utes when you should celebrate a Cougar accomplishment. Maybe you should come out of the dark.
I couldn't agree more. When did we BYU fans start acting like little sister? The smack talking U fans on these message boards were extremely annoying all off season, so why call them out? Let's just celebrate an amazing win and both cougars and utes should be happy with 1-0 teams. I hope November is 11-0 BYU vs. 11-0 Utah with both teams in the top 10 and then BYU goes BCS bowling with a win (with a legitimate shot at the NC game). But right now we should just focus on not having a serious letdown against Tulane (remember TCU lost to SMU after beating OK).
GO COUGARS!
No one here is disparaging last years sugar bowl win or the ute football team they are just asking for the ute prognosticators from the last two weeks to come on here and eat crow. 56-6, 70-0, Hall 6 picks two fumbles, and crap like that we had to deal with. Now all those ute fans have gone replaced by more classy UTES. In you we see a person divided you can accept a good win for the MWC but in your Heart of Hearts you wanted BYU to loose, you don't like to admitt it but you did.
Unlike the rest of your conpadres you still had the guts to come on albeit to try and yell at us for calling YOUR FANS (not the team) OUT.
