Surprised

I am surprised by the Guv's support, but I agree.

Reasonable...

...people like the governor see the speech for what it is. His position probably won't quiet the dopey conspiracy theorists, though.

Dixie Dan

Hurrah for the Governor. He just got my vote for reelection!

Kudos

Kudos to Gov. Herbert for a common-sense reaction to this event.

I agree with him, he is our president and we should hear what he has to say. Then we can have an open and constructive conversation with our children about it. I didnt vote for him but i dont think its going to be a political speech.

Common Sense

Wow! Governor Herbert is a refreshing change from the Legislative Branch. I can't imagine that Dave Clark and his owners in the Eagle Forum. Gayle Ruzicka could not, would not, allow civic dialogue. Governor Herbert already is showing his stripes as his own man and not the property of the radical right wing of the party.

Awesome!

Great for him!

I happen to disagree with Obama's basic ideology but if he sticks to inspiring kids to work hard and finish school that will be great. Even if he slips in some ideology that some parents might object to, I think it is smarter to allow your kids to hear that and then point out how your opinions and beliefs differ from his than to not allow them to hear the speech in the first place. Kids are smart and we need to give them credit for that. I believe that a loving discussion with your children afterwards would be the way to go in any case. Knowledge is power!

Thank You Governor

Thank you for a voice of reason above shouts of unfounded hysteria. You have my support.

Well, call me surprised, the Governor of Utah showing some freaking COMMON SENSE.

Sue

Hey! kudos to Gov Herbert!! He got my vote in the future...

Jacque

I am amazed but pleased. It shows our new Governor has the courage to stand up and go against the grain. Thanks Governor Herbert for leading the way. Jacque

Thank you, Gov!

This will go a long way towards mending Utah fences.

Many may not remember, but my daughter does. She was in junior high when Ronald Reagan gave HIS speech to students. His speech was very political, including gun control and taxes. Kids didn't want to hear that!

There's a time and a place for everything, and I'm confident the President is smart enough not to politic.

A voice of reason still speaks from the Utah Statehouse. Thank you Governor for setting a fine example.
Can we please tone down the hatred and inane rhetoric from both the extreme right and extreme left? More statesmen need to step up from both political parties.
This is a great start.

Hooray for the Governor. It's about time someone in Utah showed some common sense--and had the leadership to do the right thing!

I have to say I am a liberal thus far impressed with Governor Herbert's reasonableness. As well as the responses here. There is hope!!!

Obama is not an honest person. They are changing the subject matter because everybody is paying attention. This would have been nothing but a propaganda speech had not men like Hannity, Beck and Rush not been involved in getting this exposed.
The Governor is a egotistic man. I was in a meetign once and he just barged in, announcing that he was the lieutenant governor. I was very offended. However, that said, most of those seeking public office are doing for ego gratifications dn not to serve others. So I will wait and see what this guy does. I guess now that the Obama is being watched closely on this speech that it will probably be a harmless ra ra speech. Either way our prayers our with all of our leaders.

I hate Gov Herbert

But this is an amazing thing he is doing. I am glad that a republican is capable of seeing that this has absolutely nothing to do with politics.

RE: iamsure
Don't be silly, this has nothing to do with politics.

AWESOME!!

I am LDS, I am what I could call Paleo-Concertative (but I wonder about that definition now)...

AND I certainly am disappointed in Utah Conservatives. (Please hear this point out) Bush was hardly a conservative and yet everyone loved him. He admited that 9-11 and IRAQ are unrelated and people STILL loved him. (There is a point to this) I know many who said that they wouldn't support Bush if the two were unrelated and after watching Bush soberly and in a plain statement, admit it, they still loved him. This surprised me as a conservative; what shocked me more is how if I said that I had issues with Bush they assumed I was liberal and turned on me. They thought I was unpatriotic for saying ANYTHING that was unsupportive of 'our nations leader' yet we say that about Obama and we are 'liberal socialists'!? I am NOT a socialist (and I really do know what socialism is)

There are neo-conservatives that believe in irrational arguments and blind followings of anyone who calls them self conservative. Be respectful of everyone as President Monson has shown us. Educate yourselves with .gov NOT CNN/FOX/NBC

Are you aware of the difference between "are" and "our"?
