I cant believe that the Cottonwood program is so classless to not take any action on their own to discipline their players. That is just flat out embarrassing for a program. Who cares how good your football team is if you cant play with class? Just a little bit cottonwood?

Cottonwood fan

This was a disapointing display of officiating tonight. anyone at the game last night would have to agree that the officials did not let these boys play good, physical football. making nonexistant calls, calling "late" hits before the whistle was blown on both sides of the ball. eventually as a player you get so frustrated that you can't play your game due to bad refs and start losing discipline. Please dont let this article fool you. BOTH teams needed to work on their discipline tonight. dont count out a huge win from cwood tonight because they were all around dominant. but then again, we are just classless right?

Glad to hear that Coach Thomas took his squad into the locker room--they'll be running plenty when Monday rolls around.

As for the PV team, mudslinging didn't just happen on one side of the line of scrimmage. Both teams showed an absence of self-control. Being down and shut out is a difficult pill to swallow. PV's depth is a question mark.

re: amazed

Obviously you weren't at the game or if you were you weren't watching it as you have NO idea what happened. For the D News to quote one coach on one side is poor journalism. Cottonwood was the victim of some bad calls throughout the first half and they dominated both sides of the ball anyway. The Panthers looked and acted dejected. Eventually enough was enough for both sides. I feel sorry for our boys as we obviously not the team we have been. Let's go back to playing Pineview football and behaving like good sports. I was disapointed to see us play the way we did but am still optimistic that we can improve and have a great season.

Utah Fan

Once again Cottonwood proves that they have no class...maybe some discipline would be something to actually try and install now?

Coach Thomas and Fans

I wonder how the Cottonwood coaches and fans would feel if Pine View were up by 35 in the 4th quarter and then began taking multiple shots at their quarterback after the ball was thrown. I don't know how a "Cottonwood fan" could post a blog blaming the officials for calling late hits. Believe the article, because those penalties are meant to protect teams futures. The NFL imposes fines for this behavior and consecutive roughing the passer hits shows absolutely "NO CLASS", AND YES, THAT IS CLASSLESS!

Congrats to the PV coaches, when they tried to even out the officiating by taking delays of game, showed me that not only do guys have a great coach but understood that the refs made a joke of this game. I thought both coaching staff did a great job controlling the game too bad the officials showed up

south fan

I was sitting on the cottonwood side and for the most part the fans were very respectful and nice people, so was the team. Its too bad a couple of players can cause a bad name for the entire school. This is a very classy coach running this program.

Besides the fight

Even though PV has a good team they showed that their not ready to compete with the best teams in the state.Their lack of a running game was exposed big time, and certainly the PV pass defense needs to be shored up.But hats off to PV for playing a CW and seeing where your team really is,now they know and they have to get better to beat the teams out of Reg.9.

This was an awesome job by both coaching staffs in keeping their teams under control in what could have been the worst officiated game EVER!!! Hats off to the PV coach that took 3 delay of game penalties to try to even out what the officials where doing. Very cool move

It definitely needs to be said that BOTH sides were at fault last night. When a Pineview player actually shoves a ref, with no penalty called, and has a game full of cheap shots that only escalates as the score widens, then its only fair to call a spade a spade. Obviously, Cottonwood had no reason to start a brawl when winning by 35. These two teams have a great history of respect between the two coaches, and the unfortunate events last night were due poor officiating. I give Coach Thomas all the credit in the world for actually having his starters leave the field after their ejection - an action that speaks louder than words. Both coaches brought their kids together in the halls after the game to apologize to each other and learn from their mistakes, because both sides agreed that officiating was mostly at fault. When the game is reviewed by the UHSSA later this week, the truth will come out just like 2 years ago when Cottonwood played Cyprus and those refs were sanctioned for a year.

I wonder

How the article reports Cottonwood had, was it 5. late hit, unsportsmanlike penalties and that is was the officials fault. So, not only was Cottonwood taking cheap shots and trying to injure a team they were dominating, now the fans want to blame the officials. Nice.

Control

The officiating crew sets the tone of how the game is going to be called early in the ball game. One can sense the "chippiness" of certain players and can give verbal warnings to players between plays as well as indications to coaching staffs.

High school football players are not all created equal when it comes to learning how to control their emotions. I would not blame either coaching staff for individual letdowns. Should we blame the U of Oregon staff for the meltdown their player had after the Boise State game? I don't think so.

Hey Pineview

OVERRATED!!! OVERRATED!!! C-WOOD should have saved the $$$ and gas spent on the bus and played someone along the Wasatch front

PV

Don't worry.

All you have to do is beat Dixie and SC.

Two home playoff wins and back to SLC.

Maybe another shot at CW.

Who knows?

poor lil pine view...

once again- pine view was embarassed by the big boys from 'up north'. pine view is nothing but a big fish in a small pond.

Pine Who?

I believe the reason for the tension during the game was cause by Pine View's whining for the last year about their last loss to Cottonwood. Im glad that Cottonwood came back and made things clear. They are a superior team. The big fish here in southern utah has been put in its place.

PV

you program is in total disarray and is kind of a joke.

My thoughts!

Pine View should have some good footage on their weaknesses. It was a hard game to watch, not because of the officiating, but rather CW's offensive and defensive line domination. I do feel Pine View's line will get better from playing this game though. Coach Stott is a master at what he does, he will sure things up for next week, after all our line has some big shoes to fill from last year. I believe we have the skill players to make some noise this year, we will only get better as our line play improves. My hats off to Mecham for hanging in the pocket and making those throws under duress. I felt he showed a lot of poise, with a second longer to plant his feet he would have completed those go routes to Hosner and made CW pay. Look out region 9, this game will only make Pine View a better football team.

The Wood

I am glad to see that the majority of the comments indicate the responsibility for the unfortunate "brawl" belongs to both teams. If you look past a few of the PV fans comments about how CW is classless , and look past a few of the CW fans comments about how we the "big boys" "up North" & "big fish small pond" , you will see the majority opinion was that it was unfortunate and it was handled about as well as could be by both coaching staffs.

When all said & done I have to put the blame on the poor officiating. It seemed there were some "homer" calls at first that went against CW , then followed by "make up" calls against PV. Way too many pass interference calls against both teams (some were legit, but it seemed neither team could even touch the other). A terrible unsportsmanlike call against a PV player after a sack. It is easy to see how players on both teams were frustrated.

Lastly , If the PV coach did intentionally take those post brawl delay of game pentalties , wow.. kudos to him. Excellent move and more importantly what a statement about how poor the officiating was.
