You're kidding me, right? The man is the President of the United States! It is a PUBLIC school, for goodness sake. Too much listening to Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck and not enough common sense, in my opinion.
Are you serious? Can you really not imagine the HUGE deal it would become if it were George W. Bush pulling a stunt like this? The liberal media and protesting hippies would be going crazy!
Give me a break! I agree, if it was Bush talking it wouldn't be a problem. And wake up people! I can't believe someone seriously said that our very own president doesn't belong in our classrooms.
Where is the respect for the President of the United States that so many Utahns claim. If you disagree with what the President says then use the video as a moment to have a conversation with your children, while teaching them the values that keep the country strong, namely respect for the President of the United States, even when you disagree with him!
I don't get it!! when I didn't agree with Bush everyone said, "we need to send positive thoughts to Bush so he can finish his job." I agreed. Now with Obama trying to "clean up" a very large mess that he never even created (nor complains about) and trying to help everyone in this country the best he can; I have never seen so many hateful/negative people make comments and threats to someone we should be standing behind - no matter what!
What kind of message are you sending your children? If you don't like someone or agree, just walk away and don't listen to them; even if they are different or have a difference in opinion.
Your child comes home from school and says, "my teacher said the color of the sky is purple, I will just stay home for the rest of the year, because I don't agree."
Amazing!
Why does Obama want to speak to children? What does he want them to do for him?
Classic Socialist Propaganda... all wrapped up with a smile and delivered straight to our kids.
Thank You Davis County for offering an alternative on this day.
What a sad commentary on the politics in the state. He is the president of the United States and this is the first time ever a president is taking to school children. I, for one, want my children to be part of this historic moment in history!
I didn't vote for him and I sure don't like some of the things he has done since being in office but wake up people, he is still our President and deserves our respect. Send your kids to school and then talk to them when they get home about what they heard. You may be suprised to hear that he didn't try to indoctrinate our children. He is the leader of this great country and our children need to know who he is.
The myopic viewpoints of some people are truly stunning. To suggest that the president of our country doesn't belong in our (federally funded) schools is both hypocritical and ill-conceived. He is possibly the most important person in the world for the rest of his presidency and instead of using this as an educational opportunity or (gasp!) listening to what he says before going into a panic, we have parents who fear for the well-being of their children???
As for the "Why" comment. Gee, I don't know, perhaps he wants the children of the country to try to excell and better our planet that the grown ups are doing a wonderful job of ruining. Yeah, that's evil alright. Glad I was warned.
I am ashamed of Davis School District and all of those parents who are unamerican. Is this sort of blatant disrespect for the symbols of the United States really what a public school district should be doing?
Mark another reason why I'm embarrassed to admit I'm from the state of Utah. Everybody take your children out from school so they don't see Obama's liberal agenda of "staying in school and working hard to succeed in life"!.
Freaking embarrassment. I'm surprised that anybody who is this wacky enough to consider this a threat to their children actually lets their kids attend public school.
We recently moved to Utah, and after reading this I am ready to move back out. I cannot believe how immature and disrespectful these parents are. I cannot imagine how their children are going to function in the real world as adults when their parents are setting such poor examples.
I wouldn't have had one issue with it until I saw the video. I think the video would have been fine but we are not servants to the president. He is our servant. I am now a little concerned about what he might be saying to my kids. THe video came across as being propaganda in nature when it comes to being a servant to the president. And I would have preffered a big American flag at the end of the video. We don't worship Obama.
I just watched this video and I can see the problem. It has a good message until tatoo guy disses the pledge and they start pledging to serve President Obama. Last I checked, our government officials are elected to serve us.
Wow!! unbelievable that parents would actually take their children out of school to keep them from hearing a message from their President regarding their education and how they should commit themselves to working hard and setting and achieving specific goals. Maybe these parents children would be better served if they were shown a re-run of President Bush's
speech on why he's sending our son's, daughters, fathers and mothers to fight a war in Iraq. It's scary how the mis-information, fear mongering and down-right hate have divided us!
Actual quote from the article:
"I don't think our president has any business in our classrooms,"
Seriously, how stupid you could possibly be? All he is going to say is "study hard" and "school is important." Get a grip people.
Having the President of the United States encouraging students to do well in school can be a bad thing, how?
I am a die hard conservative and I support our president because he is our president. I didn't vote for him, but you can bet your butt that I'll sustain his leadership. He should be broadcast in our schools and then us parents should use it to create a dialogue with our children.
This is what parental control is about. If you want to attend with your kids (probably ideal) great. If you want them to go and talk about it later, great. If you don't trust the message the President will take to the kids and want to take them out of school, great.
But, I'm sure President Obama wouldn't want a big stink by sharing a message that appears to be brainwashing, right? If he did that the nation would be all over him and his approval rating would drop even further. So I say, send your kiddies of to school, and then discuss it later as a family.
