Coach is looking forward to season
Just play them together. There. Fixed.
I have always been a Jerry Sloan fan, he is consistently is a top 10 coach every
year but he does make mistakes. He preaches toughness and defense and gives all
the playing time to the players who rest on defense. He banded Morris Almond to
the D League for lack of defense but allowed Boozer to play significant minutes
with very little defense. I like his offense system but he doesn't always have
the flexibility to change it to match the players on the team. I
hope he coaches another 5 years and retires with the Jazz and moves up into the
Sorry, that is a joke. If you guys think sloan is better than Jackson, I need
to examine the air quality.Sure....
Popovich maybe, Horny's not a coach, and Jackson is the most overrated coach
ever, not worthy of comparison to Sloan, please.
ALMOST making it year after year is not entertaining. It's grindingly
The question is do you enjoy watching the Jazz play? They don't have to win a
championship to be an entertaining team.
wow 2-1 ratio today favor of "jer" did he do a campaign?Fun and
entertaining...That is all that matters. It is cool. I do not care anymore, to
me O Connor has become even a bigger issue than jerry and that is saying
something...If the players do not respond in any sport that becomes the issue of
the coaches. I am convinced this team has more talent that the playoff round
they get ousted the last couple years. The only way I would not
complain is getting to the semis and losing to the Lakers.I could
then say the team and coaches did the best they could with the personnel here.
It is not a title but the Lakers will likely win several more anyway....
BYU hater's just can't give it up, this is just tired and boring.
I am also amazed that your hand is still there!
Hall of Fame Career with a lot of class, boozer, pay attention to sloan and
learn some things about attitude, character, and class!
The championship thing is way over rated. Look at BYU. They haven't had much
success and they have one. If they had the BCS back then? They wouldn't have
been a top 10 team. Sometimes, Luck happens or doesn't. We had two great
shots at a title and we blew it. Chicago had Dick Bevetta in their back pocket
and that was the simple truth that stopped Jerry, John and Karl and you/us from
getting a championship.
Coach, great career with the Jazz. Well deserved recognition from peers and all
accross the NBA. I look forward to many more years as you are the heart and
soul of the team. If a few players would respond better to that heart - we
would have had the championship and more. Perhaps this year they will.Congratulations and good luck again.
Careful Sloan - don't step on Boozer foot and another 5 months of sitting and be
Congratulations to Coach Sloan on Hall of Fame.I have been a huge
fan of him for years now because of his approach to the game and to life. I'm
sorry, detractors, but if you are happy watching spoiled brat players who
basically run the team, owners who let them, head coaches who only last one or
two seasons----then you need to become fans of some of the other teams where
they allow players to be a disgrace to the team by their actions.I
have always appreciated that with few exceptions, the Jazz players support and
add to the community standards which we enjoy in Utah. The Jazz team will not
stand for their players doing stupid, illegal things. Coach Sloan encourages
the players to be responsible people, to do the right things at the right times
and thus set a good example for our youth.GO JAZZ!!
I can think of 3 better coaches; Popovich, Jackson, and Hornacek!
Maybe the Lakers would be willing to offer advice on how to get a title....They seem to be pretty good at doing it over the years.
I'm sorry but that is a most uncorrect statement for Utah. Yes we would like a
championship, but it's all about having a team & people we are proud of and give
us a lot of entertainment watching them play. We could end up in last place,
but if we have a team that represents us well, I will support them forever. I
could never support a team of thugs like the Denver Nuggets. Give me Jerry
Sloan's Jazz anytime. They Rock and make me wanna keep watchin'. Eventually Good
Prior to the beginning of last season there were notable NBA pundits that
expected the Jazz to contend for a W. Conference Championship.Injuries decimated the team and the chemistry. This season will
basically be a do-over except the guys have had another off-season to improve
their games. This team is fairly loaded with talent and plenty of
young guys. The front line lacks size and defense like it always has but
hopefully with the injury bug behind them they can make a better effort and make
this season what last season should have been.Remember? With two
weeks left in last season we were within couple of game of the second seed. We
still were competitive despite more injuries games missed than ANY TEAM in the
league. If the injuries are not ridiculous we stand a decent shot.
Boozer will be here to the trade deadline and if the Jazz have one
of the better records at that point then look for the Jazz to keep him the rest
of the season unless some ridiculous deal falls in their lap.Players
don't dictate trades around here.AK? Tried/failed.Boozer?
Fire Sloan Hire Hornacek and the team will respond. Until then Jazz will loose
in the first round and not play any defense. If Sloan's main calling card
is defense and toughness and the Jazz were the softest team in the league last
year that should tell Greg Miller that the team in not listening to him anymore
and things that worked in the 80's don't work today....common sense.
Loser. Can i stand the pain of watching this uninspired, selfish man again for a
whole season? There is no hope for the Jazz. Ugh......Glad I do not have season
tickets to this folly.
The Jazz could be very good this year if Boozer decides to step up and be a man.
I like the idea that could put DWIL, Boozer, Misap and Okur on the floor at the
same time. Especially if they can pick up another player for Harpering.
I really wanted Sloan to retire along with Stockton and Malone. I respect what
he's done and his Hall of Fame induction is well-deserved but the Jazz really
need a fresh start. The Sloan era was done a long time ago. I look forward to
the day he retires (which, unfortunately, will probably be the day he dies).
It is hard to look back on a few decades of winning seasons and say its a bad
thing because of no championship. There are many teams without championships,
especially in small markets.. The biggest difference is they have winning
seasons 1 out of 10 years as they go through a new coach every season or every
other season. I have no problem appreciated the past while looking to new
possibilities of the future.
Jerry Sloan in my opinion is the best coach in the NBA. If you want to go with
someone who holds players accountable and believes in hard work and integrity
there is nobody better than Sloan. He isn't perfect as nobody is, but he should
be allowed to coach the Jazz until he chooses not to.
RE: Wake up Jazz FansCan I get an AMEN!
the only reason Boozer is still with Utah is because no one else would meet his
price. They didn't want him badly enough to pay for him. His attitude is part
of the problem. He has never given 100% to Utah because he always wants to be
some place else. He is not worth the high price he is asking for his talent.
One of the classiest guys in the history of the league: Understated; always
practical. Has he made mistakes? Of course; we all do. I hope he stays until
he is eighty. I heard him interviewed, when he was a player nearly foty years
ago. I was amazed at his comments about the game then. He has only gotten
Hey folks, we're talking NBA basketball here, not sunday school. Utah has got
to get over the "town nice guy" excuse to happiness. True happiness is an NBA
Championship and nothing less!!!
seems to like mediocrity. he's only coaching cuz he's got nothing better
whatsoever to do. the jazz team will maybe make the playoffs and then its out in
either the first or second round yet again. i don't know exactly what they need
to do to put them over the top like they want to do. the coach isnt going to do
it for them. he's had a camera in front of him oh so many times and has been
seen saying that 'its their job to play the game, i'm not here to motivate them,
i dont know what to say to them'. that is not a very good coach at all. that is
a coach who only cares about receiving his own paycheck.
Article give insight as to what to expect this season which seems more of
the same. Why would you trade Harpring (who is probably retiring)for
Wally Zerbiak. The only thing they have n common is they are both NBA players.
Harping is tough and does the dirt for the team, other teams like to give him a
wide berth. If Matt does retire we should look at digging Bruce Bowen out of
recent retirement who is relentless on defense yet unafraid to take the three
when he is open and gives a veteran presence to the locker room.
Coach Sloan is a great example in so many ways, humble, common sense, solid
work ethic, good values, consistent, and a tremendous ability to build good
people into great teams. I'd like people to watch and appreciate the Coach for
the man he is and think about what he has meant to Utah, the Jazz, and the
people whose lives he has touched. Sadly we are running out of people like this
in sports who others can look up to and say with certainty that this is what
right looks like.Best wishes for a great season Coach and congratulations
on the Hall of Fame selection. Well deserved!
Congrats on the Hall of Fame, Coach. You are one in a million and we are so
fortunate to have you.
I hope Jerry stays around for 5 more years. He is a class act and is the Utah
Jazz. Good luck this season coach.
Jerry sloan keeps it real. The West is strong again this year. It would be nice
if the Jazz could pick up Wally Szczerbiak, to replace Harpring he will be
Boozer can really learn a thing or two about character if he pays attention to
Sloan. Let's all hope he does.
Sloan is the man...i shook his hand in 1989 and I am amazed he is still there.
