Reverse mortgages are a great product - in the right situation. There are advantages and disadvantages to getting one, and the key is finding someone who will adequately explain them to you. I agree that in the case cited in the article getting a reverse mortgage would not be wise. There are costs that would not likely be recouped if she were to move in the next few years, and it doesn't sound like she needs the money. That being said, there are also many cases where a reverse mortgage can vastly improve the quality of someone's life.
