Hot homemade whole wheat bread and fresh fruit freezer jam!

I once watched some utahans complain bitterly at the till of a mexican restaurant because the food was spicy. Bland, to me, is what utah looks for in cuisine. D
The best desserts are in UT | 6:54 p.m. Sept. 1, 2009
All of the best desserts are in Utah, or made by ladies from Utah. Utah has the peanut butter cookies with the Hersheys kiss in the middle - never had or seen it anywhere else, unless the person making it was from Utah. That's my favorite.

Shaved ice is very common in Utah too.

The funeral potatoes are very good, but we now make them with diced potatoes and not shredded potatoes, which is better.

Two boxes of Hamburger helper, two gallons of milk and three boxes of cereal each day were just snacks for my four teenage sons.
PB & Kiss Cookie | 8:23 p.m. Sept. 1, 2009
Sorry but the PB cookie with a kiss in the middle didn't come from Utah, it came from a contestant in the Pillsbury Bake-off 40-50 years ago. Don't know her name but she wasn't from Utah. You can probably find the proof somewhere on a Pillsbury website.
Not that there aren't a heckuva lot of people who make that cookie in our fair state.

Where did squeaky cheese come from? Is that more Idaho?

Doug G, it's true, Utahns aren't used to highly spiced food yet, but personally, I believe if you put too much pepper on food, then you can't taste the food.

A food that is very Utah is venison.

There is this type of thin, thick chocolate cake made in a rectangle pan with thick chocolate frosting. The texture was amazing. I wish I had some so I could have it for desert on Thursday after eating two Hebrew Nationals while watching the Utes destory Utah State on TV. Heaven!

Casseroles.
Re: Bob2 | 9:27 a.m. Sept. 2, 2009
I make something like that called Texas Sheet cake. I have one of those ward recipe books that has the same recipe but is called 30 minute cocoa cake. You are right, it's delicious and it goes great with a glass of cold milk.

I no longer live in Utah. I moved out of state 13 years ago but when I think of food I think of Cache Valley Cheese, Aggie Ice Cream, Gossners Root Beer milk and fry sauce. Thankfully I live close enough to stock up on my visits. Sweet's salt water taffy too.

When I think of Utah cuisine, I think caseroles, sheperd's pie, jello-salad (any type), whole wheat bread, mashed potatoes and gravy, and tomatoe sandwiches (sliced tomatoes, mayo, salt pepper, and bread). Also, fry sauce. CA has added it to the menu in some places, but I have lived all over the country and nobody else does it.
jooj | 10:13 a.m. Sept. 2, 2009
Bob2: The cake you are referring to is called "Texas Sheet cake" and is one of my specialties. I make it in a 9x13 instead of a cookie sheet because we like the cake thicker. These cakes are a staple at baptisms, baby blessings and family parties.

I'm pretty sure the famous Magleby's chocolate cake is some variation of this. I'll that recipe some day!

Cali, It's called animal style, not monster style, and there is no way that In-N-Out is a "Utah" thing. It's Californian all the way.

Did you read the story or just the comments- the article lists green jello.
