Comments about ‘Former Bountiful teacher to stand trial on sex abuse charges’

If the perpetrator had been a male teacher and the victim a female student, there is no way that the male teacher would be out of custody pending trial. This is an unacceptable double standard.

Headline: "Bountiful to be tried for sex crimes". I guess the whole city of Bountiful will be on trial. DesNews may want to update the Headline.

Might want to get the web team to change the article listing on the "Latest Updates" section. It currently reads "Bountiful to be tried on sex crimes."

While I'm certain Bountiful is quite the scamp, I certainly don't think the city itself can be tried for sex crimes.

This kid had a relationship with another teacher at the same school. I know you cannot put to much blame on the "child", but come on. He has to be responsible for some of his actions. Two adults that should have known better have destroyed their families trust and are looking to spend some time in prison. Their careers are finished and they will have "sex offender" tag follow them everywhere they go. Just for what, because they felt lonely? To much of a price to pay if you really think about it.

I completely agree that as an adult (or in this case adults) they would recognize the risk to doing this to a minor. I don't think the kid should be on trial though. He is a minor and by law he can not give consent. Its just plain stupid for these married women to throw all of their life away on this kid. I hope they think it wasn't worth it now. I'm sure the kid will be fine in the future. This whole thing is a trophy placed on his bed post in his world. I know teenaged boys and any would jump at the chance to have sex with anyone regardless of age difference or desireablity. These women took advantage of this teen and now its time to pay.

It seems excessive to me that this warrants a possible life sentence. Were I on the jury I probably wouldn't convict just because the penality is so out of order.

It amazes me to read the difference of opinions here and with channel 5's web site (can't put url here). Trying going there and actually reading the whole story and getting a better idea of the victim.

Well - now the women will be permanently labeled as "sex offenders", have to be registered with the local authorities, loose their teaching certificate and not allowed around children, right? Right. We'll see how far it goes.

I wish the girl who accused the West High teacher of this same stuff would get punishment as their should be a punishment for the boy in this case.

The people who have commented on the excessive nature of the charges listed are forgetting those are bargaining items to entire the perpetrator into taking a plea with say half or less to avoid a trial saving the victim from the trauma of testifying and the State and perpetrator court costs. Adults who harm children rarely get what they deserve and often the child is left to deal with it alone while watching the perpetrator get away with it due to our legal system and the people who cry foul for so many reasons that are often obscene to to into the same class. Living in a reactive society rather than one of prevention of harm of children is how we gotten here and there is no end in sight for victims when agencies for prevention and education are regularly cut to bare minimums and therefore only take the worst cases which often are too late to help in any significant' way leaving all the others to flounder on their own until they too become the worst of the worst. It's a sad commentary on the planet and the state of humans around the globe.

Punishment for the minor? YOU people have lost your minds. Two adults, both teachers, take advantage of a student and you want the boy punished? Some of you need to wake up. No wonder society is the way it is today. Its people like you who scare me more than these teachers back on the street in a few years.

To UNLV: This boy played both teachers. He knew what he was doing was wrong. They knew what they were doing was wrong. But he, because of his "age" is going to get off. They are going to go to jail. The so-called children of today, being in their teenage years, are much more savvy and street-wise then kids of 20-30 years ago. This "boy" is a predator. We have not heard the last from him. Who among us could resist the sexual advances of a 14 year old? It is the boy's fault. An adult cannot say no in such a situation. She had no other options. Nothing to do but do. The adult is the victim here. We need to pass a law exonerating adults who copulate with 14 year olds that come on to them.

Perhaps "anon" is making the point of that's what a lot of people would say if the genders were reversed in this case.

This Woman has a daughter my daughters age. She is not only a teacher she is a mother. The victim is the 15 yr old that is a CHILD... Not an adult...
Again I will say what in the is this country coming too? Why are we questioning her guilt? 15 yr old jr high boy and 40+ yr old woman teacher...ummm let me think oh yeah sorry its the ADULTS FAULT and she should serve time and be kept away from kids period!
Lets go back to protecting our children shall we? yes we shall....

Really this 40 + Yr old Female is a teacher a mother probably belongs to a church she is out in our world and she has relations with a 15 Yr old Male and thinks that is okay? WHAT IS GOING ON? Why are we still talking about this? Why isnt she locked up?

The kid overcame the adult in a brief moment of weakness time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time = 8x's over a few months. She had no chance...no choice...no opportunity to say no...no way to stop the repeated Friday visitor...poor woman. It would be asking way to much of an adult to stop such a 14 year old visitor. She had to "let him in" time and time again.
