I'm glad to see RSL get this guy. He is shaping into a good player with a lot of upside. Getting his first was huge and I think that will spur more goals. Keep it coming Campos.
He looked very good and calm yesterday. Here's to many more goals from Campos this year.
He may have looked good and we certainly needed the goal.
However, he acted as stupidly as Olave and Mathis with that tackle in the second half in front of the Chivas bench. He reminded me of Atiba Harris. It should have been a red card and we should have been playing a man down with a one goal lead for 30 minutes. How would the game have turned out then? Three points?
RSL must play smarter!
I've always felt that Robbie Findley plays better off the bench. His speed can really exploit defenders who are beginning to tire, much like he did last night against Talley. Campos is a more physical forward and with his height is ideal for a target forward. He might not have scored on a healthy keeper last night, but he still showed his potential. So, start Campos and sub Findley in around the 60th minute.
I love Campos. He was amazing however we need to be smart. We cannot start him for the rest of the year. He needs to come off the bench in at least 1 more game. If he starts 8 games total we give up 2 draft picks. He has started 1 now and we have 7 left. I don't think it is asking too much that Kreis plays this smart and brings him on as a sub at least once more. Great goal. He definitely earned it. Red card must have seen something I didn't. That was a solid yellow that I for one very much appreciated. He showed me that he cares about his team. Chivas totally took down Kalifi I think and Campos returned the favor. The ref was a real piece of work to card Campos but not the Chivas guy for the exact same thing. Especially since he was about 4 feet from the Chivas thing and probably 2 yards away from what Campos did. Chivas is a bunch of dirty cheaters. It was good we abused Talley, he deserved it after his diving and theatrics. Toma ya Chivas!
The only thing that made his yellow card worse is that it actually happened in the first half with about 10 seconds left in the half, just let it go and go into the half without a card. I agree it could have been red, he came down with his studs and hit the guy at about mid shin. Quite ugly and unnecessary.
*20 yards away
not 2 yards
I don't think any player could make soccer less boring than it already is.
Wow! You really have a good point. I never thought of it like that. I think I'll stop watching and playing soccer now based your deep insight. I never realized how boring it was. I think I'll turn on the TV and try and find a 4-hour long baseball game with 2000 commercial breaks and endless shots of guys standing around scratching themselves. That will really enliven my spirits! Thanks for saving me from myself!
Why do you feel the compulsion to comment? If it is so boring then read something else.
Campos is a nice guy and really quite a skilled forward. Campos did not seem naturally very physical at San Jose and probably better suited in something like a 4-3-3 where there are more players around to combine with. Specifically, with San Jose, Campos would go down too easy for the MLS when he had the ball and defenders got physical with him. In some leagues certain rough play gets a foul called that won't be called in the MLS. Campos looked to need to adjust.
Always sad to hear about cynical fouling, IMHO it's the boorish side of the sport best clipped out by referees that understand the difference between football and pigskin. This takes consistent calling of all the fouls and setting the players understanding about what will be tolerated. Yeah, Chivas plays dirty. Campos is a player that can do a good job playing the beautiful game and I hope cynical fouls are a passing phase as he adapts to the MLS.
IIRC in Sj Campos was good for 60-70 minutes, his fitness at sea level wasn't really there for a full 90.
Good luck in the playoffs!
