Before you encourage children to walk the dangerous streets to get to school PLEASE make the roads safer for them!

It's nice to see our mayor tackling the tough issues...

2 blocks Robert?

Make sure to load up the SUV and stop at McDonalds and get those great egg McMuffins on the way.

God help us.

I have to agree.

There is no reason that children in local and close elementary schools can't walk to school, it may be the only exercise they get. Fair or foul weather, it is good for them. Some think a few blocks is a long ways to walk, but try going a couple of miles on foot every day. And most of the time kids enjoy the walk and time they spend with their friends for a live chat. It also helps work off the anxiety and energy they have. Much better than drugging them.

As for the safety aspect, children today are safer walking than at any other time in history. I've seen more children put in harms way by parents dropping the children off at school with their vehicles. Instead of going to designated loading and unloading zones, they stop and do it in the streets in the middle of traffic. Now which is more dangerous, their walking or the parents?
