Prayers continue to go out to these guys. The racing community is with you and wishing you well.

All the best....

All the best to these athletes. Hope you all recover and are soon back enjoying your bikes.

Why did the SUV slam on its brakes? I mean why did the drive of the SUV slam on his brakes?

Roger S.

Why was the SUV even there? And why were the riders following so close behind the SUV?

These are questions that the journalists have not answered. It seems strange that, in the midst of a bicycle race, an SUV suddenly gets in the way, then the driver hits its brakes. Was the SUV hauling spare bikes/parts for the racers, or was it lost? If it was lost, how did it get onto the race route in the first place? Where were the police and racing officials?

I wish the riders well, but the information on how this all occurred is rather slim.

My prayers are for these guys. This is a really sac accident.

Roger

Someone decided it would be a good idea to have a bicycle race on a public road rather than a closed course. The SUV was legally transiting the canyon when an oncoming vehicle swerved into its lane. The driver of the SUV slammed on the brakes to avoid a head-on collision. The bicycles, which were following the SUV too closely, hit the rear of the SUV.

Thanks for that inside info! When their is sign that says share the road, that means bikers need to use common sense too! I dont know how many times I've driven AF canyon where I come around a corner and there are bikers riding up the canyon 2 or 3 wide.. Those guys just give a bad rep to the other bikers that do in fact share the road.

But speedy recovery to those injured. Glad no one was killed.

Don't be too critical of the bikers. As stated in earlier articles, much of the blame should be on UDOT and the race organizers for not closing the road during the race, as requested.

It was not the Race organizers or UDOT that prevented the road from being closed, it was the National Forest. The request was made but the Forest Service declined because of the amount of campers going up for the weekend.

Sad but true

Motor vehicles will always win against bikes. Sad but true.
