Wonderful experience | 12:24 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
I attended the afternoon session of the dedication here in Vernal. It was wonderful. The feeling was very tender, very spiritual. Even though I was sitting in my Stake Center, if felt as though I were sitting in a temple. After the powerful talk by Pres. Monson (which followed other wonderful talks by those who preceded him), and then the dedicatory prayer presented by Pres. Eyring, we stood to sing "The Spirit of God Like A Fire is Burning." Now, I can't sing that song on a normal Sunday. It is one that brings forth great emotion for me. But to try and sing it after such a spiritual meeting was impossible. I'm grateful I was able to attend. I'm grateful to belong to a church with the authority to bind in Heaven that which is bound on Earth. I grew up in Draper and wanted to attend that dedication, but was unable to. So this was a special experience for me. I had not made it to the openhouse, so I was very happy to be able to see the beautiful slide show that preceded the dedication. Thanks to all who made this possible.

Interesting.... | 6:50 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
they say it is about families, but in reality it caused a family division if one or more of the family members didn't have a temple recommend they could not attend while the other members of the family were allowed. Another example of Church rhetoric for the family while at the same time splitting families apart.

My father died early Friday morning. To have the opportunity to attend the dedication yesterday and see the images of the temple and to hear the talks was a tender mercy

The title says it all, "FLOCK." Listen people, you don't have to be sheep anymore. Religion needs to go away and stay away forever. We are created from exploding stars, not mythical beings, so grow up and stop littering the land with these concrete eyesores. Thanks.
I agree with awake | 7:52 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
what is so frequently promoted as unifying families often splits them apart. When some family members are allowed to participate and others are excluded.
suzyk | 7:57 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
To "AWAKE". You have much to learn and hopefully you will learn it before you die. Because if you don't learn and believe there is a God, you are heading for misery. We are not sheep, we just believe in what we have been taught and that is..There is a God and his son Jesus Christ and it is with them that we want to be someday.
Dear Censor, | 7:57 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
you are grouping yourself into the company of Venezuela, China, Myanmar, and North Korea. I know you are doing this because it is your job, but honestly you should be ashamed of yourself. The side of truth doesn't need to employ censors. It stands proud and freely on its own merits w/o fear of being torn down. Why does the Church need censors?

Awake and rise up | 8:00 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
Birds also flock.

We're not just created from exploding stars. Our stuff has been in at least 3 star explosions, including a massive collision of neutron stars.

We are heavenly beings, in material and in embryo. That's one thing the Temple reminds us.

What a sad comment, "Awake."
faiththenform | 8:07 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
So Awake what created exploding stars?, what was the ultimate power of creation, where did it come from?, I respect your right to be different. But please respect other's right to worship and to have a place away from the world and skeptics such as yourself to worship god, Thank you.
Re:Awake | 8:13 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
Remember these words. "Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess." You might want to wise up before judgment day. It starts with humility. Its actually quite amazing to see that you believe that we (humans) could be made from "exploding stars", but not from a supreme being. In your opinion it must be pretty simple to form a human body. Do you know anything about how it works and how complex it is? That doesn't happen by chance. It's taken thousands of years for doctors to figure out how it works, but an exploding star formed it. Your thinking is quite immature and juvenile.

How sad to go through life with Awake's attutde. He must be depressed every day with no joy in his life.
RE "Awake" | 8:54 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
How do you know that the so called "Big Bang" initiated life? I for the enjoy seeing the measure of ones devotion to their Supreme Being in their meeting places. If it is a Temple, Chapel, Synagogue, or Mosque so be it.

Awake - Something it is best to remain silent. Educate your own children and family members. Keep your philosophy to your self and those that believe it. It makes no use trying to shove your philosophy up other people's throat. You are merely stirring contentions. Lastly, let the missionaries do their job and not you.
Woody | 9:36 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
Thank you Awake. Your view point of God and Creation is all right with me. I would, however, say that temples are much more than concrete buildings. They are symbols of changed lifes, and the higher hopes of men. They are not eyesores if we emerge from them and serve others. It would not bother me a whit to be entirely wrong about theology, if I am part of a flock bringing goodness to the world.

one more, AWAKE: | 11:01 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
four possibilities: 1) Believe in God, God exists. You live a life with a higher standard, trying to do good for others, because of promises in theology. Result-because God exists, he rewards you. 2) Believe in God; God does not exist. You've still lived a high-standard life, left a great legacy, but no afterlife benefits. People miss and honor you. 3)You don't believe in God, God does not exist. You live a life dictated by your own standards, which may or may not help others improve, including yourself. Possibilities for self-service, isolation, self-awareness as well as self-absorption. Benefit: none, cause after you're gone, people won't care. 4)You don't believe in God, God does exist. Your life of self-absorption gets its reward. Not pretty.
Bottom line - Believing in God has a higher benefit, even if he doesn't exist.
BTW, beautiful temple. We loved the open house.
Some well put points | 11:09 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
if one were wrong about life after life it woulden't hurt to lve this life fiiled with the gospel and a love for God, full with love of family, and happy. on they other hand, I wouldne't want to live this life and neglect a God and that gospel that is provided here, and have to grow from death on and limit my eternal progression. As we are taught, we will carry the same mind set after death as we did in this life..
Canceled Church? | 11:21 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
Why couldn't they cancel meetings church-wide? Why should Utah get all the blessings?

Re: Anonymous | 9:23 a.m

That was a great post. Full of contradiction... Awake is a missionary in his/her own right.

That's the problem I have with the lds church and it's members. They think it's ok to knock on my door and tell me everything I believe is a lie. But when challenged about their beliefs they just want to be left alone to believe whatever they want to. And if you interfere with that or try to change their beliefs you are labeled as a hateful bigot.

We need more people like "Awake".
DN biased | 11:31 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009
What is this? Some kind of self absorbed love fest? Listening to some of these posts makes me sick and feel sad for such gullible people.
I call it a self absorbed love fest because the DN is being very picky to share only their view on the subject. They have failed to post a post I have tried to enter twice.
Jim in Texas | 11:40 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009

Yes, I will agree that our physical bodies are made from the same elements as the earth. The scriptures state this. And the heavy elements of the earth were made from the explosions of stars.

But our spirits are the "real us". It is the "real us" who animates those bodies of physical element. We speak of spiritual things, "Awake", while you refer only to the physical.

And another poster stated, "what is so frequently promoted as unifying families often splits them apart. When some family members are allowed to participate and others are excluded."

Not so. All people who have prepared themselves according to the direction of the Lord are encouraged to attend the Temple. If one is excluded, it is only because one has not prepared themselves.

Oxy Moroni wrote: "We need more people like "Awake".

I have to disagree, Oxy. My 45 adult years in the LDS Church has shown me that there are quite enough people with the same outlook as "Awake". Many of them changed over the years. "Awake" sounds like a young man. His attitude may change over the years too.

I was looking forward to hearing more wonderful experiences, and am sad to find mostly bickering. Sad.

I am truly sorry, Interesting, that someone's feelings were hurt when they were unable to enter the temple! God wants us all to be able to receive the blessings of the temple, but asks that we prepare ourselves through baptism, etc. first.

I'm quite irreligious but Awake's comments were classless.

I believe in God but everything after that gets a bit fuzzy. Tho, If you need to go to church every week to remind you to be good then I feel for you.

If being LDS works for you then Super. I am quite content w/ my chimera of Deism, gnosticism, & Taoism.

I sorry you feel it is the Church which splits families when in reality it is the people themselves who split away from truth.

Jesus said "Think not that I have come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword....a man's foes shall be they of his own household....he that taketh not his cross and followeth after me, is not worthy of me." Matt 10:34-39.

@cancelled church, When you say, "they", are you refering to the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost?
Maybe you should ask them yourself.

Weren’t church services in Utah canceled for the Draper Temple Dedication earlier this year?

Is it accurate to say that church members skipped out on church when, in fact, it was canceled? Skipped out implies that people were ditching or avoiding, but there was nothing to skip out on. Bad wording.

And poor little Whitney. She really must be weirded out when church is canceled for General Conference. And she even manages to make it to church on those Sundays! Bad quote.
RE: Awake | 4:50 p.m. Aug. 24, 2009
So you think we came from an exploding star.

Sounds like a religious belief to me.

Something that takes a great amount faith.

Especially since there is NO HARD scientific evidence you you can create life that way.

Just a man-created theory, all based on may haves, might haves, could haves, possibly haves.

IT seems like it is just as much "sheepful" thinking as anything.

you've just chosen a different shepard.

NO my faith is in God, that there is a purpose to all things.

It is very significant that the Prophet, Thomas S. Monson cancelled regular LDS services on Sunday, 23 Aug. 2009. The reason is simple, the Lord was telling us how important the Temple is to the eternal scheme of things. It is through the ordinances and covenants that we make in the Temple that allow us to be like Our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, who is our Saviour and Elder Brother.
Laurels | 5:12 p.m. Aug. 24, 2009
I love free agency. It is an eternal doctrine. I am grateful God gave us the right to choose.

We can choose to believe that God exists, or that he doesn't exist. If one believes that God does not exist, it is not surprising to have the perspective that some of the posters have.

I would imagine that when one considers religion to be nothing more than silly superstition, the activities associated with the dedication of a LDS Temple, or other religious events, are meaningless and nonsensical.

For those people who believe God does exist, and that another temple in His name was dedicated this weekend, hold to those beliefs, and find strength and comfort in them. Don't be offended that others do not believe as you do. Free agency, and the diversity that results from it, should be accepted and expected.

I was edified by the dedicatory session I attended. I enjoyed hearing John Longhurst perform again on the organ! It was wonderful to hear the choir he accompanied sing, "I Believe In Christ," a hymn he composed the music for.

It is an incredible privilege to have 4 temples within 30 min. of my home!
Digbads | 5:19 p.m. Aug. 24, 2009
I loved the dedication. I was really touched by all the talks in the final session.

As for all the "hoopla" by Awake and his "Big Bang", I'm very sorry to report that as of late the "Big Bang" is not really accepted science. It doesn't fit the current body of evidence in the universe and different theories are now being espoused by leading astrophysicists. Science is ever changing, inconstant and unsure--quite the opposite of our savior and redeemer, Jesus Christ.
