Nice game men!!! I was pleasantly surprised, as I think most the Layton fans were, of how well Layton played....as it was unknown, yet there was an air of confidence about the team. Several leaders popped up. Kaysan, Bunting, Thomas, Dickerson, the list goes on. The O Line was great, creating gaping holes, that helped this inexperience Lancer team average 10 yards per rush. Interesting how the QB rotation worked. Aarron Bunting QB 1st & 3rd Qtrs and Derrick Thomas 2nd & 4th. Was a very nice tandem. Defenders best get used to seeing #1 go around and slipping by them. Adam Bunting, all 5'5" 150 lb Tailback, will be flying by people all year. The O line, probably averaging 290 lbs each was great! Nice job boys. The D played nicely too....living up to Batchelor's famed D schemes.
Jordan, our Layton boys are waiting for you.
Same old Bonneville. Always alot of talk coming from the Bonneville camp. This year it's how hard they've worked in the weight room this and 50 - 0 that. Batchelor has got Layton to the point that they are going to reload because of the work put in for 3 years, beginning when they are Freshmen. Bonneville can't work hard in the weight room since last December and think they are going to catch up. This is obvious as Layton has outphysicaled the Lakers and made them whipping boys for 3 years in a row now. Bonneville will only win games against teams that they are more talented than the other team. Don't expect them I predict another 4-6 or 5-5 and at best a 3rd place finish in Region 5. They're lucky Bountiful and WX aren't in the region any longer and are the 3rd best team (at best) in Region 5 behind Mt. Crest and Sky View. I wish it were different as I am a fan, but just being realistic with what I saw last night and over the past 3 years. All talk, unfortunately.
I think it is funny to see Layton cherping about how good they are against Bonneville. Big deal, you guys have never finished the big dance. When you go against the big dogs it is a different story.
Layton don't get too excited, it was only bonneville. settle down.
Way to go Lancers, I was pretty jacked when I heard you were dominating! Get back to the finals again so we can have a re-match with Alta and Layton. Batch, nice work, glad to see the level you've established is where it is.
I'll get excited because they're my team. Do I think they'll get to the big dance, no. They can't compete with the stacked teams in SLC. Do I want them to, sure. Always. You go boys.
As far as a smaller team competing with the big boys, Bonneville was well overmatched. So, Bonneville, don't get too down on yourselves. Bonn had 7 players > 200 lbs. Layton 21 with several >300 lbs. I think there was 1 player on Bonn >250 lbs. Too much beef.
Jordan will be a great test. Although they were beaten by Northridge which wasn't supposed to beat them. You never know til the game is played.
Good Job Lancers! Keep up the hard work, good things will happen! And will someone please put a sock in True Blue Layton Fan!
a great win for the Layton Lancers! it's just one game of course and too early. batch always keeps his boys focused and never looking past any team. Good luck next week against Jordan!
Great Win Lancers, Go get the Beat..a...whatevers!!!!
since when was Alta a stacked team? When ever you lose there is always a reason. (All Alta kids are local) No imports
It was nice to see that the hard work these kids have put in at the weight room and the long hot summer practices on the field came thru last night. Regardless the score or who they played they looked awesome. This is a group of kids that are friends first and play as a team, they remember there is no "I" in team and it showed. One game at a time and with an "angel" on the side lines it is sure to be a great year. Great job coach Batch on getting this team ready to play, now lets play and keep them all healthy.
Stacked is defined as being DEEP, not having to play so many key players both ways.
To LHS, apparently I've struck a chord of yours & you can't face the music that this team won't go too deep into the playoffs. If they do, I'll eat crow. Or you aren't a Layton fan & you just don't want to hear me. That's ok, will the good, comes a bad apple occasionally. I love Layton football. Love how these boys work their butt off with a great coach like Batchelor pushing them up. Way to go team!
Hey there TBLF, Long time no see. I'm personally predicting Davis to take the region 1 crown this year. This is based off of their defense. However, they have a lot of work to do with their offense. Think Layton's offense is good enough to beat their defense this year? Will Layton take region 1 three years in a row. Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Layton, NRidge coming into the season under the radar, Davis laying an egg, Syracuse squeeking by CHills. IT will be a great season. Give it one more week before the smack really means something
ALTAFAN, A lot to answer yet in R1. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think Layton will take the Region title this year.....at least that's what I predicted at the start of the year. Like I said, if I'm wrong, I'll glad to be wrong, because I'd love to see Layton take the crown 3 yrs straight.
Layton's offense in one game, tells me their running game could be good again, but a different style than the last couple years. #1 Adam Bunting is quick and crafty. Derek Thomas is strong and athletic and runs as a QB. The passing game is has some work to do. Good receivers, just have to get it to them....as long as the routes are run good. Layton's D will get a good test with Jordan this week.
I told you that layton was overated and who ever ranks Layton 4th in state this week had a rock in there head. Layton cannot play defense.
Realist, be what your name represents....real. Pre-season rankings really are a shot in the dark. Layton's D will be good in R1. Jordan's passing attack is one of the best in the state, so be real about a defense being bad, when the offense in this case, is excellent. Now, I'll be real. Yes, there's some glaring weaknesses. The D line needs to put pressure on the QB, so they don't pick apart the secondary.
Layton is obviously not ranked 4th in state now.
Good job boys, i love sseing you guys win im so proud of all of you and so is our "Angel" so keep it up guys !!
