I would suggest getting away from the tourist traps (Akihabara, Shinjuku, etc.)
and getting a taste of the neighborhoods. Find little shops and restaurants in
side streets near the smaller train stations. Just wander around the places that
normal Japanese people live each day. Akihabara, Shinjuku, and Ginza (not to
mention Shibuya, etc.) are interesting, but they're really nothing more than
hyperreality (with some good places to eat thrown in here and there).
"Normal Japanese people???" What does that mean? The fast paced,
technology/business driven and excitement you have in Tokyo IS a big part of
Japan and yes, "normal Japanese people" live that life. I agree, you can
get pulled into tourist traps in big cities. But, that can happen anywhere. The
different areas of Tokyo MUST be visited. The smaller towns are to be cherished
and visited too, but please don't label amazing areas of Tokyo as "not normal
Japanese living."

By the way, "Tsukuji" should be "Tsukiji." :)
