marijuana is not a drug it is a NATURAL herb, that god gave to us to use. So anyone who thinks that it is a drug should do some research and they will see that alcohol is the real drug. It has to be processed to be consumed, not marijuana just pick it and let it dry. If it were decriminalized there would be less crime due to the fact that people would not need to seek drug dealers to get their medicine.

I just guessing zach's literacy is a testament to the wonders of marijuana use. Next dictionary you buy, read the pages, don't use them as rolling paper.

I would argue the legality of cannabis. It was made illegal in secret and did not go through proper legislative channels. Read the history behind the movement to make cannabis illegal. Plot Spoiler: It's not be cause it's harmful. It's because some rich people wanted to stay rich and because some people wanted to keep other people down.
Arguing the legality of cannabis with a cop...well, that's just crazy talk. Cops just follow the law...except when they testify at legislative hearings about drugs. Then they are staunchly against anything that will force them to respect your rights.

We must take our country back from these imbeciles that wish to imprison our peaceful citizens, it the words of our forefathers it is our obligation to do so.

If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.

"If it were decriminalized... " but it is illegal right now and the case is about here and now. If you have an illegal substance in you possession, you are guilty. Case closed.

I suggest all of you, especially the uneducated folks who claim cannabis is a dangerous drug, to watch The Union: The Business Behind Getting High. Even for those of you who believe cannabis is evil or dangerous, you must see this documentary. Good luck, Utah! I hope your government can pull their heads out and see the truth about cannabis. What is the LDS stance on medical cannabis?

John here here!! I think you put it best!!

Even if cannabis were made legal, it would not be legal to give it to a 16 year old, so the felony would still apply. Natural does not mean safe, as many poisons grow naturally and we use herbs to season salads, not to get high.

The only reason why it was made illegal was to have a reason to persecute the mexican immigrants coming to The States back in the 20's...all Anslinger wanted was an excuse to deport innocent Hispanics so that he could make a profit. The Government keeps it illegal because they cant make a profit off of it. If it were legal people could grow it in their house without government monitoring. if the government had a way to control it and its profits it would be legal by now...as was said above its illegal to keep the rich rich and everyone else that smokes it down. this country really needs a wake up call

Chris,
Then ask yourself this, "Why are those poisonous plants not illegal?"
Why can I grow a garden of African violets, hemlock, and any other plant that has the ability to end human life upon consumption, and have no fear of being raided by law enforcement?
And yet if I have 1 single Cannabis plant (a plant that has never directly caused a single fatality in the thousands of years of human consumption), and all of a sudden I'm a criminal, with a felony charge.
Tell me our laws are not hypocritical! Ya know just because something is illegal doesn't make it deadly.
And again the FDA approves a 100% THC pill for medical use, but the DEA warns you of the deadly 13% THC "Super Weed". Isn't 100 more than 13?
Oh sweet irony, the US be thy name.
As for the 16 y/old. I think I'd rather my teen smokin weed, than drinking, smoking tobacco, or popping those "legal narcotics" called prescriptions, ANYDAY!

No one has the authority to illegalize a natural occuring plant!...It is a claim that that the Government has more power than God!

Do you think the Government knows better than God!?

The Government and the unthinking creatures who enforce unjust laws are the middle-man between you and God!

Imagine how ridiculous and atrocious it would be if the government illegalized tomato plants, or seagulls!

Marijuana is much less toxic than asprin, caffeine, or alcohol. It is impossible to consume a fatal amount. It reduces the size of tumors. It does not cause long term mental or psychological issues. It is not physically addictive. Marijuana users have lower rates of head and neck cancer than non-users. The studies are out there for anyone who wants to educate themselves.

Legality does not determine right and wrong. As a previous commenter said, marijuana was made illegal to make certain people rich, and to oppress the Mexicans who had been using it for ages. It is still illegal, because politicians, law enforcement, and pharmaceutical companies make so much money off of cannabis prohibition. These groups have huge lobbies to protect their financial interests.

Adults should be free to choose what substances they want in their own bodies. And no, minors should not be using any psychoactive substances. But this case is about stupidity dealing with law enforcement, and not child endangerment.
DJ Weber | 8:45 a.m. Aug. 22, 2009
Poor woman, never did anything wrong. Its not the governments place to determine what people put into their bodies its a god given right. Epically someone who is a law abiding citizen, that smokes a little pot here and there. Soon though with enough effort it will be legalized.
