We're #(seventy)1 !!

THEeyepatch

71?? Is this a good thing? Does BYU get a balloon for this? Maybe a gift certificate to Olive Garden.

My job interview

I am a BYU alum and I often think of my first job interview with a major international chemical company. During my first interview, I was asked more about the BYU honor code than any questions about my qualifications for the position. I got the job with a very comfortable salary and benefits package! Why, I asked myself? hummmm interesting question! Thanks BYU! You have blessed my life immeasurably!

Re:Job

I also am a BYU grad and have always felt my BYU education prepared me well for my chosen profession. The entire time I was there, it was humbling for me to think that there were hundreds of people who would have loved to be in my shoes as a student at BYU and would have loved to fill my spot at anytime.

NY

Thanks "My Job Interview". My story is very much the same and I have heard countless others as well. BYU has really knocked down some doors for me on both the west coast and the east coast.

#126? - I thought there was only 119 schools in Division 1. Wes not even ranked in the top 119? Did we beat SUU or Dixie?

Jim

For U of U folks. Samford is not Stanford. Two very different institutions. Don't confuse them.

Med School

My time at BYU prepared me for medical school to a degree that some of my med school classmates from Haaaavad and Yale hadn't tasted before. They had to take a year off, complained that they couldn't continue their photography hobby, etc. Depending on the major, BYU is a very rigorous institution.

re: THEeyepatch

Yes they did. The Utes got a deflated balloon and a gift card to McDonalds.

Gutting of public universities

With the impending budget cuts coming in the next two years, you can expect the U and USU to slip, so enjoy the celebration now... both institutions are now suffering a severe brain drain as talent is getting swept up by other universities outside the state. As the economic engines of the state, we'll see how these cuts will affect the state's economic competitiveness in the 2010s. Very sad future for the state.

Dr. J

Congratulations to the Coogs. Humble pie for the rest of us.

Utefan: There are no divisions. This is a ranking based on education not sports.

Woo Hoo

Let's plan a parade, Utah grads!

I had a similar experience to "Med School". If you look at admissions to professional programs a degree from BYU is a clear advantage. On my first day in an East Coast dental school the new students took turns introducing themselves, I believe 10 BYU grads, and a total of 16 from Utah (most others from SUU).

The ratings cannot take into consideration the amount that the LDS Church subsidizes BYU educations. Everyone receives a scholarship, it just shows up as reduced tuition.

I'm certain there aren't 70 schools in this country that are "better" than BYU.

We can read

Hey Jim,

Just because the U is ranked at #126, it doesn't mean its grads can't read Samford.

Additionally, this information shows you the benefits of private schools vs. publicly funded institutions.

On my honor

I guess it's because BYU offers a degree in Scouting.

it's really all a matter of taste ;) I'm currently enrolled as a freshman at the U. It's been my dream to come here and for the money i can't imagine a better place. BYU 71 ? that's very impressive would i want to go there now instead? No, too big of a cultural rift for me there ... (plus they wouldn't have accepted me) * shakes fist * lol

GreatAccomplishment

BYU really is the "Oral Roberts University" of the west.

Princeton

I've taught at the U and the Y. As far as I could tell, the students were the same and good at both places. I went to Princeton - it was great for me - I liked the smaller school feel. But as far as I'm concerned, I'm not sure why anyone on this message board is celebrating the Y or lamenting the U. Work hard, wherever you went to school, and the doors open up for you. Anyone who puts any merit in these rankings, no matter where their own school ended up, is an idiot.
