It's just funny, why didn'nt Americans wonder when they were dominating in sprinting distances ? Now when there is dominating nation and that is not the USA, they suddenly began to wonder. Get used to it, they are much better

Oh please....stop the that Americans are the bad guys....people were suspicious of Justin Gatlin, too...and there have always been suspciouns bout Marion, Tim, Carl and on. It´s funny....when the Americans were dominating it was the Jamaicans that cried foul all the time....now they are winning....by freakish times and suddenly emerge last year....and Y´all say nuttin.

I say...Usain...enjoy the hype as long as it stands...the same for his 100m counterpart....foulplay is involved...I would bet my life.

but I enjoy the show

As a former track athlete, I share Doug's view. I wonder. Bolt is either a once in a century athlete, or there is something else at play. We deserve to have an honest anwer to the question. I don't know, but I wonder, too.

I'm not sure if the Jamaicans are using PEDs or not, but one thing I am sure of, you can count on Doug Robinson writing something negative about sports. I am not sure why he still writes his one column a week about something he clearly has a pessimistic view over? The guy simply hates sports and what it stands for. Can he write? Yes, he is a very talented writer. $100 talent with a nickel attitude about something the rest of us love.

To "only sure of 1 thing": DRob loves sports but like all of us he realizes that compared to when we were kids growing up that our "heroes" have become individuals who have taken performance enhancing drugs in order to compete at their "highest" (and I use that term literally). Why can't athletes just train, eat right, sleep right...etc....and then just compete to the best of their God-given ability? Why must they try to cut corners? And yes, I am an ex-athlete (miler to marathoner...4:05 in the mile and 2:24 in the marathon) who did just that. I have no regrets as to how my career ended or how I performed to the best of my minor abilities. Would I have liked to have been better? Sure, but not at the expense of being afraid to look at myself in the mirror and knowing I cheated to get there. Oh, btw...Doug was/is an excellent athlete who at 54 can still do sprint workouts that some high school kids are envious of.

Well, well, I taught if you do not have anythign postive to say don't say it. I can ell u from being an Islander that most tallented ppl never reach this level b/c of corruption in government. Jamaica has a lot of corruption and great athletes have come and one but the world never heard anything about them until now. So probably they are getting smarter and getting the right athletes to compete.

Jealously A kill all A yu. Wonder about how many times Bolt have been tested and found clean. Give credit where credit is due.
kiaoraguy | 1:34 p.m. Aug. 19, 2009
Doug hates sports? OMH, I guess that is why he is still associated with Alta's T&F program, because if you hate sports you be a coach and write about sports and are chosen over many others to write a book about the late sports nut Larry H. Miller- what a bonehead thing to say, does not like sports...

agree with Doug. Can anyone say "dope".
Anonymous | 3:05 p.m. Aug. 19, 2009
Let's say it all together...don't do drugs!

Watching Bolt is easy to figure out. Doug chronicles the track times...and has a great argument.

Uh-huh. And Marion Jones never failed a drug test either. Didn't stop her from doing a year in Club Fed for lying to investigators about her PED use.
One more time people: If you're taking a substance for which there is no test, you can't fail.
Face it, Drugs have won. The only relevant question is whether there's a world-class sprinter out there NOT on something.

I am a little curious about this article. There are always dissenters, but if the writer and commenters stop to think, that in every aspect of life there is progress, so why not athletics. Improvements are not only in illegal drugs, but legal drugs, training methods and techniques. So because a record is broken cannot only be attributed to illgeal drugs. Computers now are a million times faster than they were in 1988, athletes makes no such progress, so until proven guilty give the guy credit for his achievements.
SWA | 11:11 a.m. Aug. 21, 2009
I agree with Melton - Bolt rang a brilliant race and it's a pleasure to watch. He's clearly a natural talent with a great deal of skill.

I also wonder about bias in reporting - Bonds was slammed in the press for taking drugs and many said his record was tainted - but he faced pitchers on drugs - and nobody talks about tainting Roger Clemens' strikeout records - why is that??
