Oh man, I am now officially dumber for reading this.

The Big-12 defenses aren't as bad as they appear.

When you face exceptional offenses, yes-it can skew the stats.

The result is you need to have an adjusted defense rating, due to SOS or quality of play/offense.

For instance, OU scored 33 pts I think on OU. Now TCU was around the nation's #1 defense last year. You could compare that with how OU scored on BIg-12 teams and get an idea of where this is going...

Like I said-the BIg-12 defenses are not as bad as they appear. To me, those same defenses IMO, would be around #60 or better with a MWC schedule.

Re: Anonymous: So, you're officially dumber for reading this article. One would think if you're gonna rip someone you would have the courtesy to at least leave your name. You come in cowardly, leave your rude remark, and leave before anyone knows you were here. Sounds like your a real upstanding guy. Get a life. I like Harmon's articles. All he's pointing out is that we shouldn't be surprised if defenses in the Mtn West take a hit this year, much like the Big 12. I kind of agree with him. Utah's defense especially is going to be shredded, by Cougar Claws!

Re: James

Your comments were good until the last part. First the MWC will not be effected as much as the Big 12 because the Mountain West as been dealing with the spread offence longer than the Big 12.
Second Utahs speed on defense puts them in a much better positoin to deal with the spread offfense.
Now; The big "slow" cougars claws will never stop the speed and strength of the Utes defense.
Or were you talking about the cougs "shred" offense.
That will just fall a part under your boy Max.

I can't help but wonder why James, and others, have to restort to tearing another team down. I guess they play the games to determine who can win rather than make the winner the one who can say worst about another. If BYU looses to Utah I will be dissapointed for BYU and excited for Utah. If TCU beats Utah I will be happy for TCU and BYU, but if Utah wins all of thier games I will be happy for them. I suspect there are remarkable young men on all teams, and some I would rather not know, but I won't degrade anyone - especially those I don't know. Food for thought.

RE: James

The Ute defense should be very good. You'd better hope there aren't any injuries at the QB position on offense. Louks just left the Utes for greener pastures at Nevada. Gotta be at least a moral downer for your Utes and may be a picture of things to come.
