Fun article! Just make sure you keep your room well ventilated for several days after installation and don't use vinyl products around young children or babies as the off-gassing of vinyl is quite toxic and hard on young people's lungs. Have fun with vinyl, but use your common sense about its smells and impact on human health!
My wife has a vinyl business with roles of vinyl in her office. There is no smell.
Nice article.
The earlier comment about air quality is not accurate.
Most colored vinyl used for wall graphics is solid color pigmented vinyl. When the vinyl made into sheets (months before you receive it) it is left to degas before being rolled and packaged. This is still way before any sign or wall graphics company ever touches the material and way way way before it goes on any wall.
A few wall graphics products are full-color designs printed on white vinyl. Printed vinyl is a little different in that after it is printed on with usually toxic solvent-based inks. The printed vinyl is then left to degas before it can be laminated. This degassing takes about 24 hrs. The amount of gas released is so minimal that the claim of the earlier comment is just ridiculous.
Hope this clears the confusion.
There is a local utah company that does all of the college based vinyl stickers. The name of the company is Modern Wall Company. They have the University of Utah, BYU, Utah State University, and Southern Utah University wall decals.
There are no fumes. What the heck are you talking about?
