I do not attend services at the Cathedral of the Madeline, but I am nonetheless blessed by its beauty, and the goodness of those who worship there. May the cathedral continue to serve as a sanctuary, and may those who enter, whatever their purpose or creed, find peace and feel the love of God. Congratulations on a glorious commemoration!
I love this place! It is always so nice to visit and feel the Holy Spirit and get really uplifted. Christ's Church continues. In Him, we all live.
Blessings to the members of this parish and diocese who are a beacon of light in the desert of paganism which is Utah
I am so proud that the LDS church financed the remodel of this cathedral. In return all we get is grief (including shutting off access to parish records) but in the end you will all have the choice to become LDS or not. Please keep that in mind! Have fun in your little cathedral but always know where the truth lays.
become a argument about LDS and everyone else?
I was so hoping the Des News would not allow negative comments about this celebration
Congratulations to the Cathedral and the Catholic Community. It is a beautiful building.
for Why did..@2:25
Thank you. I was wondering myself when the negativity would start. I appreciate the kind remarks. I am sorry that some Catholics get right in there with some Latter-day Saints and decide to get in their digs. I think it makes Our Lord very sad to see His children behave in such a manner.
I like the cute little gargoyles on the Cathedral that are there to protect it form the evil ones.
Congratulations to the Catholic community for 100+ years of presence in Utah. Our beliefs may differ, particularly that on continuity and restauration, but I rather be surrounded of good religious people from any faith that the ever expanding secular movement that wants to rob religious people of their right to worship or those who want to impose their misguided lifestyle on those of us who conosider it sinful and unacceptable. Just a note to the reporter: Catholics do NOT celebrate Mary's "assumption" but "Ascent" to heaven. Catholics believe that Mary continued to be a virgin and that she inherited a status similar to God's. Mormons agree that Mary was a chosen vessel and that she'll be rewarded for her outstanding service and obedience to God and to His son, but differ in the continued virginity aspect or her equal status to God. The Bible clearly states that Mary had more children who were born after Jesus' birth. It also states that Jesus had brothers and sisters including James so-called "the Brother of the Lord" who served as an Apostle and missionary and whose remains lay in what's now Spain.
To- Alex, Thank You,
Also Catholics are not sexist and they do respect woman greatly. we also respect the greatest mother to have ever live on this earth, who was indeed the Mother of Jesus. Mary was a chosen woman by God, and she will always be revered high in our religion.. for Mary was the one and only earthly woman to ever be chosen by God to be the Mother of Jesus. Jesus is our savior, king and our forever leader. Amen
Alex,
You are well intentioned and I appreciate the kind way in which you presented your post. However, Alex, we Catholics do NOT believe Mary "ascended" into Heaven. That would be by her own power. We indeed believe that " upon completion of Her earthly life she was ASSUMED body and soul into Heaven." ( that would be by the power of God). We do NOT believe she inherited a status similar to God's. Some Catholic "cults" have attempted to exalt her to this status. We as Catholics do not believe that. As for her "other children" these scriptures are open to interpretation. I know Mormons do not like it when you are told what YOU believe. We Catholics feel the same way. We, as Catholics know what we as Catholics believe just as you as Latter-day Saints know what you believe.
Hello correction. You are not practicing correct doctrine of the Catholic faith. You are probably a Mormon on here trying to act like a Catholic and trying to confuse the people. Oh ya, what catholic cults are you talking about? Please name them.
I visited the Catholic Cathedrals in New York. I must say they are very ornate and beautiful. Congratulations to the Catholics and they're refurbished cathedral. I'll have to see it next time I visit Salt Lake.
