What is with this obsession with church pageants? Do we REALLY need to to endure yet another dreadful church pageant?

D List Players

The church's obsession with horrid pageants is starting to become a real embarrassment. Why don't they just revive the old ward roadshows instead?

AzEscape

Dreadful is only in your own mind. If you don't like church pageants, stay away but don't condemn others. Thank goodness millions of others don't feel that way. These pageants portray great church events and are activities the whole family can attend without being assaulted by swear words, sexual situations, and evil. I for one am proud of these events. Long live the roadshow spirit.

Peagents as a vacation destination? Please, I go on vacation to get away from the church and culture.

I Liked It

Whatever the naysayers may say, I went with a group of young single adults to see this pageant this year, and I enjoyed it. Plus its free. Let me repeat that, FREE. And its not like going to a pageant a year is a requirement for church membership. If you don't like them, don't go to them. I may not like playing basketball, but you don't see me complaining about churchball. On a sepperate note, I couldn't stop thinking about how weird it would be if I died and somebody made a musical out of the most dramatic parts of my life.

If you can't produce a pageants well then don't do it. This pageants are almost embarrassing. As my mon said if you can't do something well then don't do it at all. My vote, save the embarrassment and don't do it at all. Go help serve the lord and leave the acting to hollywood.

Sound the Trumpets!

Add my vote to those who think these pageants are just plain awful. Not to mention just plain sappy. They are legends in their own minds.

Nibbles

I would never invite an investigator to a pegeant. If we almost had him(or her) this would most likely be a deal breaker. It makes me squeemish and I have a pretty solid testimony.

I can see that there are several here that don't appreciate cultural events. I'm with AzEscape, these are good, wholesome activities for a whole family to participate in. For both the actors and the viewers. I know that many testimonies have been developed when they feel the Spirit through other peoples lives, including acting and viewing pagaents. Yes, they are just "community plays." But, it is obvious that you, that criticize, go with the intention of wanting to see perfection and being entertained in a Hollywood way instead of just enjoying the talents that are performing and the whole spirit of the story. It's kind of like "law vs. principle." Those that go, should go and enjoy the spirit it is presented in and leave the Hollywood expectations home.

To all you anti pagent people:

Some place in the scriptures it says that there will be daily pagents held in the Telestial and Terrestial Kingdom with mandatory attendence and that in the Celestial Kingdom there wont be any.........You have already paid your dues here on Earth.

I love pagents!!!!!!!

Sue

We took my mom to see this last year and we all loved it. The talent...the music...the Spirit.. Will we go again? You bet!

Uh, here's an easy fix....if you don't like them, don't go.

That was easy, wasn't it?

I have attended several LDS and several non LDS pagents and have enjoyed all of them (except one where the wind blew and got dust in my eyes.) The Passion Padgent in the Ozarks of Missouri is well known and great.

As others have said, if you don't like them, don't attend. Many people obviously enjoy it and at least some of the communities support them with all their heart.

I am sad to see several of the pagents now limited to only ever other year, despite increasing the number of preformances. I do relize the effort that goes into setting them up, advertising, rehursing year after year. They can be fun for both the performers & those attending.

I LOVE PAGENTS !!!

I don't like them my wife forces me. These pageants are just a little odd and at some point frighten me.

My in-laws were very involved with road shows, because my mother-in-law made them participate, but one year she was short a person,(a son was on a mission)and told me , I had to be in it,and play a singing traveling salesman with a lisp. I said no way. To this day she reminds me of my failure.

CULTURAL EVENTS????!!!!!! Isn't that like calling Velveeta "gourmet food"?

From: MD

I guess it is all in the eyes of the beholder, isn't it?

RE : 8:48

Pageants are a converting tool. They help give a good light on church history instead of the truth.

"The Lord opened doors for Martin Harris pageant"

Umm, isn't that hyperbole just a bit thick?

Anonymous, I take from your comment you do attend
while on vacation, I get that. If you don't like the Uath culture why do you live there? Outside of Uath there are very few church events and activities outside of your Wards and Stake
