Congrats Grads and the LDS faith is only true faith with high moral standards in the world
I wasn't there, but watched the Ceremony. They all gave great "Positive Up-Beat" remarks, especially
Elder Ballard. Definitely worth the time to watch.
Only one Disappointment: when Elder Ballard said in eesence that he couldn't shake the hands of all the graduates and look them in the eye. That was kind of sad.
I remember BYU back in the late 1960's when Ernest L. Wilkinson was BYU president. This was before the Marriott Center was finished. The George Albert
Smith Fieldhouse was the biggest building on campus.
Back in those days, when registration came it was done by hand by collecting the computer cards with the holes punched in them and then taking the cards to a master computer to see IF one got all the classes one wanted. This proces would take several hours for each student and it took 3 to 4
days for all 25,000 students to get it all done.
EVERYDAY in that 3 to 4 days BYU President Ernest L. Wilkinson placed himself in that line up. He was there to "Shake" Every student's Hand and look them in the eye. That was over 25,000 Students!!!
Being a member of the church means you "have" to defend your faith constantly. Bro. Ballard is doing just that by making the statement.
The LDS Church is the only faith with high morals in the world?
I'm LDS and the arrogance of that comment is frightening. We have lived in a number of different states in this nation. We have found good, moral people of many faiths that we have called friends and have felt privileged to know.
Your post was made at 9:57 p.m. I hope it was just the end of a long day for you, and your words came out wrong and are not what you meant.
I love this speech and I have found myself reluctant to share my beliefs because of the criticism given right away about my church. I stand up today to say, "I am proud to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Instead of saying sorry for polygamy, it would be nice if BYU would apologize for lowering math standards in Utah elementary schools.
Due to the influence of the BYU math dept, elementary math has been dumbed down in several schools in the state.
Instead of being an influence for good and light, BYU has become an instrument of darkness.
I watch the whole thing, I live in Texas and am a new member and after that I have a deep desire to go back and finish the Education I only started. Bravo! I think I am a Cougar fan now for life.
"...respectful of others' views" should be at the top, especially for the writer of the first comment (Y).
There are many pretending to be LDS in this and SLT postings. For example, "Y" is probably some anti who just wants to make us look stupid and rile up the anti rhetoric. Some have become very good at their game. That's why I rarely read these because you can't trust anything that is done anonymously.
Please provide some support for your claim.
As a member I focus my personal faith and discussions with non-members on the Savior as Elder Ballard suggested. But I also have a concern about the polygamy issue he raised. Elder Ballard said:
"This ended in the church as an official practice in 1890. It's now 2009. Why are we still talking about it?" he asked.
I understand that. But I am at a loss for how to address a couple of very well informed friends who then say - "yes, but your church still allows men to be sealed to multiple women in the case of death or divorce without cancelling previous sealings. Women can only be sealed again if the initial
sealing has been cancelled."
They inevitably believe this is a living vestige of the practice of plural marriage. It solidifies their belief that the church still BELIEVES in plural marriage regardless of what is practiced. They each know members who have multiple wives sealed to them as well as women who had to go through the process of having their sealing cancelled and it causes them to see hypocrisy and dishonesty.
Any help would be appreciated.
THAT attitude is exactly why you SHOULD apologize. Claiming to be the best at ANYTHING is very non Christian.
That is why most of the world is NOT LDS
Anne
Don't apologize. However, you should be ashamed and just get out like I did. Best thing I ever did. Life is too short to have Mormonism around your neck like a millstone. Life is a banquet and Mormons are starving penitants.
We are indeed the one true Church, and we need not apologize for that. It is everyone else's decision to not join if they wish not to, and that is not to their own betterment.
Thank you, M.R. Ballard.

We are tops in humility too :-)....
Chill out Anne....
God does not grade on a curve. 100% or fail
"Be ye perfect"(Matthew 5;48(Christ sets up the high ideal of perfect love(vs 43-47)-not that we can fully attain it in this life,That however,is God's high standard for us. Pauls answer (NIV Galatians 3:24) So the the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith) When we understands the law it should lead one to Christ not a a church.

Amen! I'm with you. I have never been healthier, happier, more productive at work, more spiritually at peace.
I give to charities and needy causes where I actually KNOW where my money is going.
What a relief for the soul!

militant mormons are not.
I see a couple of the latter above.
