How is the U of U's track program doing???
Uof U | 9:57 a.m. Aug. 12, 2009
They got lost running in BYU's shadow.
Virtually non-existent | 10:01 a.m. Aug. 12, 2009
since Utah only supports true athletic sports like basketball and football. Not any non-athletic sports like golf or volleyball or track.

Good luck Josh. World championships three years in a row. Third time's a charm! We'll be cheering!

Isn't it interesting that the other name for T&F is Athletics- isn't it also intersting that T&F is the no. 2 sport for HS girls and the no.3 sport for HS boys- but I guess those thoughts are lost those who agian want to turn every story into BYU vs Utah.

I ran the mile in high school years ago while growing up in Las Vegas. I gained a love for track & field as a result and have enjoyed following these events on many levels since then.
I enjoyed this article; BYU certainly has developed a fine tradition in the steeplechase and strong program overall, for both men and women. I am disappointed, however, by some of the comments. It seems that neither BYU or Utah can celebrate their athletic success in any sport without a few fans from the other school offering criticism, sour grapes, or put-downs in response. Once it starts, both sides keep going back and forth.
You know who you are - until the petty animosity stops, the athletic rivalry between two fine learning institutions with remain tarnished and ugly. A sad state of affairs indeed!

Whenever a BYU fan tries to turn the focus of the discussion towards overall success of the BYU athletic program (vis a vis the UofU) then the only response is "But we won the Sugar Bowl" or "What about women's gymnastics!" because whenever you look at the big picture, BYU is substantially more successful than the UofU in running a high profile athletic program. BYU has multiple national champions in multiple sports (e.g., track and field, rugby, volleyball, football, etc.). The Utes? Not so much. So anyway, let the facts speak for themselves.

And to all the Ute fans out there, congratulations on building a very successful women's gymnastic tradition (one of the best in the country).

Good to see that the gawky teen still has a sport to compete in ;-)
Re: Virtually Non-Existent | 1:36 p.m. Aug. 12, 2009
Wow, what an ignorant comment. Maybe you should go tell Maurice Greene, Usain Bolt, or Jackie Joyner Kersee that they aren't real athletes because they didn't play football or basketball.

Finally an article about sports where the athletes are good guys and ladies. Thanks to DR.

The skeptics have obviously never watched Josh or Kyle or the other Olympians training, much less competing, at the BYU Track (which has hosted several national championships).
I suggest you volunteer to help a local track team, and add Special Olympics and Junior Olympics and the Senior Games for good measure.

That my friend was tongue-in-cheek sarcasm aimed at some ignoramusses at the U-who claimed that BYU only had success in the non-athletic arenas (ie. track, volleyball, golf, swimming), but not in the real sports (football and basketball).

As a dad of both basketball players, swimmers, and track athletes-I can assure you that I have a love and respect for the work and athleticism that all these sports require.

So, not ignorant-just sarcastic.

A few weeks ago, at the USATF Region meet held at BYU, I overheard one of the head officials mention that on that one day alone, 11 different Olympic track athletes had been in the stadium, all with ties to BYU. They included Josh McAdams, Ed Eyestone, Doug Padilla, Tiffany Lott Hogan, Marsha Baird, Anders Arrhenius, Nick Arrhenius, and L Jay Sylvester- impressive if just one were there, but that many- but I guess it does not matter because none of them played football or bball. Every school should be proud of it's athletic heritage!
Steeplechase | 9:51 p.m. Aug. 12, 2009
Not to put a damper on what Ed Eyestone and these boys are doing, but Weber State has been dominating the steeplechase for years, not to mention, their coach being named as an Olympic coach a few years back. But thats okay, bask in your limelight now, but don't dog the past.

too the first comment-
its true.
its not just a BYU success here in Utah.
for example, at the world championship this week, lindsey anderson, WSU grad will be running the steeplechase for the USA.

go Josh, go Lindsey!!!! good luck at worlds!
