Awwwwww, how cute!!!!!! Little baby elephant!!!!!
Seems like a lot of new baby animals have been born at the zoo this year! It is neat to have the new ones, hopefully they will keep them here!
I hope all goes well and that the mother is able to bond with the baby in a zoo setting.
What a cute picture. That baby elephant too darn cute. I love Deseret News and all their animal photographs. They are all worth viewing. Good article, too.
That is so cute! I can't wait to go see the new baby! It is always fun to hear some good news every once in a while too! :)
I think that's a zoo photograph actually.
What is it about babies of any species that makes us go, "Awwww?" This one is no exception. What a cutie!
I do have mixed feelings about animals in zoos. I love to go see them but at the same time wish they could experience their lives in nature without being confined.
Congratulations to Mom Christie and helpers! It is obvious that Christie and her baby are loved by their keepers.
Glad to read about the article about the Hogle Zoo. Hogle is one of my most favorite places in UT, but since I dont in SLC anymore it is good to hear about Christie and havbing a baby elephant. It is nice to know that Hogle Zoo is still doing good.
Poor littel baby - born into slavery for Human Entertainment and Zoo Bucks $$$$$
clm,
I'm a bit torn on animals in zoos as well. On the one hand, elephants don't have to worry about predators and poachers while in the zoo. On the other hand, who wants to live a sheltered life?
Anyway, it is a joyous occasion having a new baby elephant born!
what a priveleged little baby - to be born into a setting of care and appreciation rather than to be hunted to extinction
Very sad - this baby will never know what it's like to truly be an elephant. While zoos waste millions of dollars breeding a handful of elephants for display, thousands of elephants could be saved in their native homes for a fraction of that money.
It is still nice to have a new birth.
This baby elephant will bring in the crowds. But at what cost to her?
It's not sad. We have a new elephant!
Oh people, give the Zoo a break. Just enjoy the cute, little, baby elephant and quit griping!
Hooray for Hogle Zoo! It's good to know that the new baby is born into an AZA zoo, so she'll be pampered! I love what the zoo's done to redo their old exhibits, and I'm excited to see the new baby!
I'm very proud of Christie and Hogle Zoo staff for their ability to successfully ensure that the baby is delivered safely while keeping Mom healthy. It's proof that these elephants receive great care and their staff does everything they can for these elephants.
There is no easy or cheap solution to elephant conservation in the wild, and achievements like this baby will ensure elephants remain on the planet regardless of their fate in the wild.
